Another World Cup will take place without one of the most successful national teams in football history, Italy. While the other best national teams prepare for the WC, the popular Azzurri will travel to Greece for a friendly match with a completely rotated squad. Italians come into the game after a 1:0 win against Luxembourg, while Greece drew 2:2 in their friendly match with Sweden.

Let's break down the game and find the best possible bet for this Friendly International tie.

Greece

Greece team overview

Greece missed the previous three Euros and two World Cups. They also failed to secure an appearance at the upcoming World Cup, finishing 3rd in Group C behind Scotland and Denmark, and ahead of Belarus. It was a terrible result considering they earlier secured their spot in the UEFA Nations League A, and many expected a good Qualifying cycle from them. After the Qualifiers, they continued to perform poorly and failed to secure a win in the following three friendlies against Paraguay, Hungary, and Sweden.

After a 2:2 draw with Sweden, coach Ivan Jovanovic spoke to the media. He said it was a valuable test and highlighted that there were positives from the match. The coach said there were moments of poor concentration and positioning. He added the match served as a good experiment as they tried to play at three at the back.

Italy

Italy team overview

Sounds impossible, but Italy have failed to secure the World Cup appearance for the third time in a row! The four-time World Cup champions finished second in their Qualification group with Norway, Israel, Estonia, and Moldova, and had a chance to secure an appearance through the playoffs. After beating Northern Ireland, they lost to Bosnia and Herzegovina on penalties, blowing their chance for a WC appearance.

After a shocking elimination, they played only one friendly, against Luxembourg, just days ago. They won 1:0 while playing almost exclusively with young players. Excluding Gianluigi Donnarumma, all the players are under 21 or 22 years old.

After the win, coach Silvio Baldini spoke to the media. He said they created several chances, but must do better offensively. The coach praised the young players for their effort but said they must improve, especially in the final third.

Prediction

Greece went over 2.5 goals in their last game, but went under the mentioned line in three games before with an incredible one goal (in total) in those matches. Even though they have solid talent upfront, they often have problems scoring against solid teams. In the past eight games across competitions, they scored one or zero goals on six occasions.

Italy showed they have massive problems scoring as they have only won 1:0 against Luxembourg. Even the coach, Silvio Baldini, said they have problems on the offensive end. The key reason for that poor offense is the fact that they are playing with their young players.

Considering all the above, we believe that an under 2.5 goals bet is the safest option for this International Friendly match.

4 Reasons why we should see fewer than three goals

  1. Greece went under 2.5 goals in three of the past four games
  2. Greece scored one or zero goals in six of the past eight games across competitions
  3. Italy won only by 1:0 against Luxembourg in the previous match
  4. Two of the previous three H2H games ended with fewer than three goals
