Topuria vs Gaethje: Odds and prediction for UFC Freedom 250 in the White House

One of the biggest events in the history of combat sports will unfold this summer as the UFC heads to the White House in Washington for the historic Freedom 250 card. Headlining the event is a lightweight title fight between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje.

Gaethje has just won the interim belt after defeating Paddy Pimblett in January. Topuria, meanwhile, returns after a lengthy layoff caused by personal issues, but his rise through the UFC has still been extraordinary. The fight is scheduled for June 15 at 06:00 CET. Read our Topuria vs Gaethje prediction, where we analyse the betting odds, fighters' recent form, and give you our take on this superfight.

Topuria vs Gaethje odds

Despite Gaethje coming into the fight on the back of several dominant performances, bookmakers still opened him as a massive underdog against El Matador. Gaethje's victory is currently priced at 6.50, while Topuria sits at 1.12.

Fighter statistics

The Spaniard has a perfect 17-0 professional record, and he also holds a major age advantage, being eight years younger than Gaethje. The Highlight is significantly taller at 5'11" compared to Topuria's 5'7", which could help him in long striking exchanges. However, the reach difference between the two is minimal, just an inch.

Ilia Topuria - fighter analysis

Topuria is building one of the most insane runs the UFC has seen in years. Just look at the names on his recent resume: Alexander Volkanovski, Max Holloway, Charles Oliveira… All three former champions were knocked out by El Matador, which says everything about the level he is currently operating at.

The Spaniard first captured the featherweight title before vacating it to move up to lightweight, and his power looked terrifying in both divisions. Despite having only one five-round fight in his professional career, he rarely even gives elite opponents the chance to survive that long. His pressure, timing, and finishing instincts have turned him into one of the most dangerous fighters in the sport.

Ilia has not stepped into the Octagon for almost a year, but the break came largely because of personal issues and a messy divorce outside the cage. Even during the layoff, Topuria stayed in constant training, and there is a real possibility he returns even more focused and mentally hungrier for this fight.

Justin Gaethje - fighter analysis

Gaethje is the definition of violence and pure brutal force inside the cage. Back in 2023, he stopped Rafael Fiziev when the Ataman was riding a six-fight winning streak and looked destined for a title shot. Gaethje later beat him again, showing that UFC veterans can still put up a fight.

That legendary head-kick knockout against Dustin Poirier also deserves massive credit. Gaethje carries genuine one-shot power, and even elite fighters struggle to survive clean connections from him. He was also an underdog heading into the fight against Pimblett. Many believed the Scouser was the next big thing. However, Gaethje has a habit of stopping the new generation and teaching them some old-school lessons.

Despite being 37 years old, the Highlight can still push a brutal pace for all five rounds while continuing to throw dangerous shots. The biggest issue remains his defence. He often willingly steps into chaotic exchanges and relies heavily on his chin to survive. Gaethje was knocked out by Holloway in the final second of their fight, while Topuria needed far less time to shut Holloway's lights out completely.

29.07.2023 Dustin Poirier Won by KO (head kick) - 1:00, R2

Topuria vs Gaethje prediction

As much as everyone loves Justin, it is difficult to see him having many paths to victory in this matchup. Topuria can absolutely get hit, but he has already shown that he can absorb serious damage without breaking. Against Oliveira, he ate several clean shots, including a brutal elbow that would have crushed most fighters, and barely looked affected by it.

Gaethje is used to proving doubters wrong as an underdog, but this feels like a different type of challenge. The Spaniard is younger, sharper defensively, and far more calculated in his exchanges. He will likely control the distance early, land clean combinations, and avoid unnecessary risks.

The longer the fight goes, the more dangerous Topuria's precision becomes against someone who relies so heavily on his durability. We expect another statement performance from the champion and are backing Topuria to win by knockout in round three.
