The World Cup is only around a week away, and the teams are actively preparing for the tournament. Two WC participants, England and New Zealand, will face off against each other in a friendly match on Saturday evening in their first-ever h2h game. England haven't been good since the WC Qualifiers, drawing with Uruguay before losing 1:0 to Japan in late March. Meanwhile, New Zealand are coming to this game after a massive 4:0 loss to Haiti just a few days ago.
Let's break down the game and find the best possible bet for this Friendly International tie.
England team overview
England, the EURO 2024 runner-up, are one of the main candidates for the World Cup title. Before the start of the tournament, they are considered by the bookies as the 3rd-favorite for the title behind two other European teams, Spain and France. In the World Cup Qualifiers, England absolutely dominated Group K, winning all eight matches with an incredible combined goal difference of 22:0! To be fair, the group wasn't too challenging, but the record is impressive regardless. After the Qualifiers, they underperformed against Uruguay and Japan, winning just one point, but played those games with a rotated squad. Now, we believe they will want to build momentum and start winning games before the WC.
In recent interviews, coach Thomas Tuchel spoke about the upcoming tournament. He said they are good enough to win the World Cup. The coach spoke about leaving out several high-profile names, insisting that he selected players who best fit his tactical ideas and the team's mentality.

New Zealand team overview
New Zealand managed to qualify for the World Cup for the third time ever and the first time since 2010 in South Africa. The popular "All Whites" had a pretty easy route in the Qualifiers, eventually securing their place by beating Fiji and New Caledonia, ranked 154th and 151st on the FIFA World Ranking List. After securing the WC, they had an atrocious preparation period, facing good teams and losing 8 of 10 friendlies. They are considered one of the weakest teams in the tournament, and no one really believes they can advance to the next phase of the competition.
Recently, coach Darren Bazeley spoke about the upcoming tournament. He said they are aiming to make history and that they want to go beyond simply qualifying for the World Cup. The coach singled out Chris Wood as their key player, but stressed that the success depends on collective effort.

Prediction
England had two bad friendlies where they won one point in two games, while scoring one goal. However, they didn't play their best players in those games. Now, we expect them to play with their key players and continue their winning streak from the Qualifiers. Then, they won all eight games with a combined goal difference of 22:0. Seven of those eight wins came by 2+ goal difference.
On the other hand, New Zealand were really bad in the period after the WC Qualifiers. They played 10 games and lost eight of them. Also, in recent games, they showed massive problems at the back, and a 4:0 to Haiti just days ago proves that. So, if they cannot defend against Haiti, it is unrealistic to expect them to do well against England.
Simply, England are a much better team, and we expect them to dominate New Zealand and win by at least two goals.
3 Reasons why England should win and cover the -2 AH spread
- England won all eight games in the Qualifiers
- England won by 2+ goal difference in six of the past eight games across competitions
- New Zealand have lost eight of the past ten games
