Magesi face their final match of the season after a frustrating 1:1 draw against Cape Town City on Wednesday. Trailing at the interval, Mcedi Vandala’s sixth goal of the season levelled the contest but Allan Freese’s side were unable to find a winning goal at Athlone Stadium.

The Black crocodiles have endured a poor run of form in the final months of the season, resulting in their participation in the promotion/relegation playoffs. Magesi lost four and won only two of their last eight games.

Now facing the final playoff fixture, Magesi sit second in the standings, two points behind Milford, and must win if they are to avoid relegation to the South African second tier.

A lack of quality in the forward areas has led to several low-scoring outcomes for the struggling hosts. Under 2.5 goals landed in six of their last eight matches. The Black crocodiles scored only five goals in those fixtures. 

Head coach Freese could make one or two alterations to his first XI. Lehlohonolo Mtshali is tipped to come into the side after a half-time substitute appearance against Cape Town City.

Milford FC make the trip to Seshego Stadium with their destiny in their own hands despite a 1:0 defeat against Cape Town last weekend. Therlo Moosa’s late goal condemned the Robins to a first defeat in six matches.

Coming into their final fixture of the season, Mlungisi Mchunu’s side sit top of the three-team mini league, and will now secure promotion to the Premiership should they avoid defeat on Saturday. 

The Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit have been in solid form, losing just two of 12 previous fixtures before their reversal against Cape Town. 

A strong defence has been the key to their promotion push. Milford conceded just three goals in their last eight fixtures. Seven of those eight games finished with under 2.5 goals scored. 

Head coach Mchunu is unlikely to make too many changes to his first XI this weekend. Mjabulise Mkhize could come into contention should the visitors freshen their selection.
