Differdange won two consecutive league titles in the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons. Last season, they failed to win the third one as they lost to Bissen in the final game of the season despite needing only one point to achieve another title. However, they saved the season somewhat by winning the Cup title. This season, they had just one game against Bissen in the Super Cup, which they lost 3:1 in extra time after a 1:1 draw in regular time. Despite losing that match, they did pretty well, and they generally had a good preparation period. The 2:1 win over Metz in the friendly game was particularly impressive. Even though there was a lot of rotation, it is still a great intro before the Ilves game.

During the offseason, the club has been pretty active. They added four new players, but none of them are well-known in the football world. Meanwhile, some of the important players from last season left the club - Théo Brusco, Samir Hadji, Dylan Lempereur, and Luis Jakobi.

Ilves had an excellent season behind them, one of their best in a long time. However, they failed to build on that success this year as they found themselves in 9th spot (out of 12 teams), with a disappointing 16 points in 15 rounds. At the moment, they are three points away from the Championship Group and with a game played more than most of the Veikkausliiga teams. So, an overall bad season, and in recent games, they really struggled defensively. It will be interesting to see how well they deal with a heavy underdog in Differdange. 

In recent days, Ilves weren't particularly active in terms of transfers, given the fact that only Andre Taymond departed on a free transfer. However, he wasn't too important for this team, and that will not have too big of an impact.
