When it comes to the number of goals, two out of three h2h games ended with three or more goals, while both teams scored in two games as well.
Switzerland team overview
Switzerland had an excellent World Cup Qualifiers and arrived at the tournament with pretty big aspirations. Luckily for them, they had a pretty easy group and eventually topped it with seven points. In the knockout phase, they probably played their best match thus far and easily won 2:0 against Algeria. They are a well-organized and stable team, but we feel that they lacked some spark up front. However, since coach Murat Yakin introduced Johan Manzambi into the starting lineup, they have looked much more dangerous going forward.
In the previous game against Algeria, Denis Zakaria had to leave the field a few minutes before the end of the match due to injury. However, according to credible sources, the injury isn't too serious, and the 29-year-old should be in the starting eleven.

Colombia team overview
Colombia managed to win Group K by getting seven points, finishing in front of Portugal. They looked very good in the group and deservedly topped the group, which alone says how good this team is. In the knockout phase, they won 1:0 against Ghana, in a match they completely controlled and probably deserved to win by a bigger margin. We were particularly impressed with their defense, considering they allowed just one goal in the World Cup, and, incredibly, that was against Uzbekistan.
Jhon Cordoba suffered an injury in the previous game against Ghana and had to leave the field after only eight minutes. According to the first news, the 33-year-old striker suffered a serious injury and will most likely miss the upcoming game(s).

Prediction
Switzerland have scored at least one goal in each of their four World Cup games. In total, they have scored nine (2.25 per game) and generally looked very good with Manzanbi in the team. Also, looking further back, Switzerland have scored at least one goal in nine of the past ten games, and we expect them to score at least once in this one.
Meanwhile, Colombia scored in three out of four games at the World Cup but have "only" scored five goals. However, they rarely have games where they fail to find net at least once. In the past 10 games, they only failed to score against Portugal (in the WC). But even in that game, they had 1.7 xG and definitely deserved a goal.
Considering all the above, we believe that both teams to score should be the safest option for this World Cup 1/8 Finals tie.
3 Reasons why we should see both teams scoring
- Both teams scored in three out of four of Switzerland's World Cup games
- Switzerland scored nine goals in four WC games
- Colombia scored a goal in three of their four World Cup games
