The 2026 World Cup is only half a month away, and the national teams are actively preparing for the tournament. Two such teams, Spain and Iraq, will face off in their second-ever head-to-head game. Spain last played around two months ago, drawing 0:0 with Egypt in a friendly match. Meanwhile, Iraq played their last friendly only days ago, winning 1:0 over Andorra.
Let's break down the game and find the best possible bet for this International Friendly.
Spain vs Iraq H2H stats
These teams met just once, back in 2009, in the FIFA Confederations Cup. That time, Spain were a big favorite but won only 1:0 by a goal from David Villa.
Spain team overview
Spain are one of the best national teams in the World and a reigning EURO champ. In the World Cup Qualifiers, the Red One did well, winning 16 points in six games with a super dominant +19 goal difference! It is not a surprise that they are once again among the primary candidates for the title. Right now, the bookies see them and France are pretty much tied for the lowest odds to win the title, around 5.5.
The most important question for Spain at the moment is Lamine Yamal's health. The 18-year-old suffered a hamstring injury in late April, but luckily it wasn't that serious. According to coach Luis de la Fuente, Yamal will miss the upcoming friendlies but should be fit for the opening game against Cape Verde. Additionally, Nico Williams is in a similar situation, but with a hamstring issue, and will most likely skip these friendlies.

Iraq team overview
Iraq, on the other hand, secured their second-ever World Cup appearance. The popular Lions of Mesopotamia last appeared in the WC in 1986 in Mexico and waited four decades for another one. In the Qualifiers, Iraq performed well in a grueling campaign, playing 21 matches over a 28-month period. In the end, they eventually secured their spot in the World Cup by beating Bolivia in the last game. The appearance in the WC itself is a success, but securing a place in the knockout phase would be a massive challenge considering they are in a group with France, Norway, and Senegal.
In recent days, coach Graham Arnold spoke to the media. The coach was full of optimism ahead of the World Cup and said that "Iraq will shock the world". He said that the pressure is on France, Norway, and Senegal, and not on Iraq. "We've got nothing to lose, so we're going to play without fear, shock the world, and enjoy it while we're doing it", the coach added.

Prediction
Spain have been amazing offensively, but looking at their talent upfront, that is hardly a surprise. In the last 15 games across competitions, they have scored 2+ goals 14 times and 3+ goals 10 times. Those games were mostly against excellent teams, and we expect them to do great against Iraq. With such offensive performances, it is not a surprise that they have constantly played high-scoring matches.
Iraq, on the other hand, haven't been as good for this type of bet, but still went over 2.5 goals in three of the past six games. Their defense hasn't been great, and they've faced only mediocre teams at best. Looking further back, when they played against solid teams like South Korea or Saudi Arabia, they struggled massively. So, it is fair to expect them to have problems vs Spain, which could make this game a high-scoring one.
Considering all the above, we expect an exciting friendly game with four or more goals.
3 Reasons why we should see four or more goals
- Spain went over 3.5 goals in nine of the past 13 games
- Spain have scored 2+ goals in 14 of the past 15 games
- Iraq went over 2.5 goals in three of the previous six matches
Main prediction Spain - Iraq
Over 3.5 goals
