Wales welcome Ghana to Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday evening in what should be a useful test for both nations. The visitors are using this fixture as their final tune-up before the World Cup, while the Dragons are already looking ahead to the Nations League after falling short in qualification. That contrast adds an interesting dynamic. Wales have shown flashes of promise under Craig Bellamy, however Ghana arrive with plenty to prove after a difficult run of friendly results.
Wales vs Ghana H2H stats
Wales and Ghana have never faced each other at senior international level before. Tuesday's friendly in Cardiff will therefore mark the first meeting between the two nations. That lack of history adds a little uncertainty to the contest, as neither side has previous head-to-head experience to draw upon when preparing for this encounter.
Wales team overview
Wales closed out their World Cup qualifying campaign on something that felt like a high note. The Dragons brushed past Liechtenstein and North Macedonia, putting eight goals past the two sides combined. For a short stretch, you could almost sense belief growing again among supporters, like maybe another big tournament run was back on the table.
That feeling didn’t quite survive the playoffs. Craig Bellamy’s side went ahead in the semi-final, which made the eventual collapse harder to take. They were dragged into penalties and lost there, a result that stung more because the momentum had been building in the right direction.
A 1-1 draw with Northern Ireland in a recent friendly didn’t really clear things up either. There were phases where things looked tidy, even promising, though the final pass or finish often felt just out of reach.
Still, Bellamy has kept faith in a strong squad. Harry Wilson comes in after a sharp club season, while Brennan Johnson and Ben Davies bring a steadier kind of quality and experience that the Dragons will probably lean on.

Ghana team overview
Ghana closed their World Cup qualifying campaign strongly, collecting three wins and a draw from their final four matches. The Black Stars looked far more organised during that period and showed the kind of attacking quality supporters have come to expect over the years.
Things have been less convincing in friendly matches. Ghana have lost both warm-up games since qualification, including a 2-0 defeat against Mexico last weekend. More concerning perhaps is the defensive record. Carlos Queiroz’s side have now conceded at least two goals in each of their last three outings.
There are still plenty of reasons for optimism. Antoine Semenyo arrives after a superb club season and should be one of Ghana’s main attacking outlets. Ernest Nuamah and Abdul Mumin have both returned from injury and strengthen the squad considerably.
The major setback is the absence of Mohammed Kudus, whose creativity and ability to unlock defences will certainly be missed in Cardiff.

Prediction
Wales look marginally better positioned heading into this match in Cardiff, although it is hard to see it being a comfortable night. The Dragons have shown encouraging signs under Craig Bellamy and generally carry more attacking intent at home. Ghana, meanwhile, remain a real threat going forward. The pace and power in the Black Stars' attack can trouble any defence. However, recent performances at the back have left a few doubts. A close, competitive contest feels likely, but Wales may just have enough to squeeze out a narrow 2-1 victory.
Three reasons we expect both teams to score
- Both teams scored in four of the last five games of Wales.
- Wales finished only one of their last seven games without conceding.
- Ghana are without a clean sheet in five matches.
