Italy step up their preparations for the upcoming Nations League campaign when they face Luxembourg on Wednesday evening.
Both nations come into this fixture after missing out on World Cup qualification and will be keen to build momentum ahead of more important fixtures later in the year.
Luxembourg claimed a famous draw in Italy in the only previous meeting between these sides more than ten years ago, and will hope to spring another surprise this week.

Friendly International
Luxembourg and Italy have met on just one previous occasion in the 21st century. The spoils were shared in a 2014 friendly fixture.
Luxembourg team overview
Luxembourg comes into Wednesday’s international friendly after a pair of Nations League victories against Malta in March. After picking up a 2:0 away victory, Jeff Strasser’s men eased to a 3:0 win in the second contest four days later.
The home side had endured a disappointing World Cup qualification campaign, failing to pick up any points in a tough section featuring Germany, Slovakia and Northern Ireland.
Capable of raising their game, Luxembourg have picked up positive friendly results against Sweden (1:0) Ireland (0:0), and Northern Ireland (2:2) in the past two years and they will be confident of surprising a much-weakned Italian side this week.
Head coach Strasser has an experienced squad available for Wednesday’s international friendly. St. Pauli forward Danel Sinani is poised to win his 81st cap.

Italy team overview
Italy face their first fixture since their painful failure to qualify for the World Cup for a third successive tournament. After a nervy playoff win against Northern Ireland, the Italians suffered a cruel penalty shootout defeat against Bosnia, ending their hopes of returning to the finals for the first time since 2010.
Following that disastrous March exit, head coach Gennaro Gattuso left his role, with Silvio Baldini taking charge of Wednesday’s fixture on an interim basis.
Italy had picked up form before their nightmare exit in Bosnia, winning seven of their previous nine internationals.
Caretaker boss Baldini has named 20 uncapped players in an inexperienced squad, with Gianluigi Donnarumma, Pio Esposito, Niccolò Pisilli and Marco Palestra the only players included with previous senior international experience.

Prediction
An inexperienced Italian selection could struggle to overcome a home side highly motivated to pick-up a famous result this week.
I fancy the hosts to lose by no more than one goal.
Three Reasons Why We Expect Luxembourg +1.5 to Win
- Italy failed to win 2 of their last 3 matches
- Italy named 20 uncapped players in their squad
- Luxembourg won their last 2 matches
