On Wednesday afternoon, Sparta Prague will welcome Bournemouth in the Europa League 4th round. The hosts have four points, while the visitors have all nine and come into the game with strong momentum, winning the last six games across competitions.

Let's break down the game and find the best possible bet for this Europa League tie.

Sparta Prague

Sparta Prague team overview

Sparta Prague finished 2nd in the domestic league last season, finishing only four away from the title. They earned a spot in the Champions League Qualifiers but were eliminated by Lyon. This season, the team from the Czech capital has been inconsistent, having already been eliminated from the Cup, and is in 4th place in the domestic league, with seven points away from the top after the first 13 rounds. Generally speaking, they are in poor form with only one win across six games and will now face one of the main contenders for the EL title.

A part of the problem for Sparta is constant injuries. While they do not have new ones, seven players who missed the previous period should remain sidelined: Emmanuel Uchenna, Adam Sevinsky, Matej Rynes, Ondrej Penxa, John Mercado, Adam Karabec, and Magnus Andersen.

AFC Bournemouth

Bournemouth team overview

Bournemouth had a slower start to the season after a coaching change. However, it was obvious they were playing well despite having little success result-wise. But after that bad start, the Cherries started collecting wins and have now won six straight against excellent competition, much better (on paper) than Sparta Prague. The Cherries are now in 8th place in the Premier League, have secured the EFL Quarter-Finals, and have collected all nine points in the Europa League. Now, it is very possible we could see some rotations from coach Rose since they have a tight schedule this year.

Julian Araujo and Alex Toth will remain sidelined with injuries, while Alex Scott is listed as questionable. The 22-year-old is training individually and will probably be attached to the team in the upcoming days. However, we doubt we will see him in the game vs. Sparta, given the fact that they already have nine points from three matches, and it is unnecessary to force his comeback.

Prediction

Sparta Prague are in terrible form, having won once in the past six games across competitions. They also failed to score in back-to-back games against Bohemians and Ostrava. Also, in the previous EL game against Olympiacos, they suffered a 1:0 defeat but were completely dominated. The Greek team had 60% ball possession, 2.1 xG, compared to Sparta's 0.67 xG and a lot more big chances.

On the other hand, Bournemouth won six straight while dominating teams like AC Milan, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Leeds... They won those six games with an average goal difference of 2.7!

The only downside to this bet is the fact that Bournemouth could rotate the squad. Still, the difference in momentum and overall quality is simply too great, and we believe the Cherries will dominate the match and win by at least a two-goal margin.

3 Reasons why Bournemouth should win and cover the -1 AH spread

  1. Sparta Prague won once in the past six games
  2. Sparta Prague failed to score in the previous two games
  3. Bournemouth won six in a row, each time by 2+ goals
