World-Cup warm-up action takes place in Harrison, New Jersey on Saturday evening as Ecuador takes on fellow qualifiers Saudi Arabia.

Both nations will be keen to build-up their preparations ahead of the big kick-off next month, and an intriguing and competitive matchup is expected at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

Set to meet for only the second time, Ecuador are odds-on-favourites to win, but can expect a decent test against a Saudi side capable of raising their game.

Ecuador

Ecuador team overview

Ecuador make the trip to New Jersey still unbeaten after being held to back-to-back draws in their most recent fixtures against Morocco and Netherlands in March.

Enner Valencia bagged his 49th international goals to earn a draw against the Dutch after John Yeboah’s goal secured a share of the spoils against CAF Champions Morocco. Both games finished 1:1.

Unbeaten in their last 17 international fixtures, La Tri have now been held to draws in nine of their last 11 matches since March 2025. All 11 of those matches finished with under 2.5 goals scored.

Set to make their sixth appearance at the World Cup finals this summer, Ecuador face Guatemala next week before their first match against Ivory Coast on June 15th.

Head coach Sebastian Beccacece has a large 34-man pool available for Saturday’s international friendly fixture. Experienced forward Enner Valencia is set to win his 106th cap.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia team overview

Saudi Arabia arrive in the US looking to bounce back from a disappointing run of results earlier this year. Georgios Donis’s men suffered a 4.0 friendly defeat against Egypt before a 2:1 reversal against Serbia in their most recent runouts in March.

The Green One has now lost four of their last five matches, failing to score in three of those fixtures. Four of their last six internationals finished with under 2.5 goals scored.

Making their ninth appearance at the World Cup finals, Donis’s men, ranked 61st in the FIFA rankings face friendly fixtures against Ecuador and Senegal before their World Cup campaign gets underway against Uruguay on June 16th.

Head coach Donis has a 30-man squad available for Saturday’s friendly fixture. Al-Ittihad forward Saleh Al-Shehri is tipped to make his 56th international appearance.

Prediction

Ecuador are rarely involved in high-scoring outcomes, and I expect more of the same in Saturday’s friendly against Saudi Arabia.

Under 2.5 goals is my preferred pick at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

Three Reasons Why We Expect Under 2.5 Goals

  1. Ecuador have seen under 2.5 goals in their last 11 matches
  2. Saudi Arabia have seen under 2.5 goals in 4 of their last 6 matches
  3. The last meeting between these sides finished 0:0
