Five players who surprised us in March

The 2022/23 season is coming close to a finish, so every world-class team is trying to maintain their form. In March, we saw some magnificent performances and MightyTips is bringing you the best players of last month.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City)

Erling Haaland - The best player of March

Last summer, in one of the top transfers, Erling Haaland came to Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund for only 60 million euros. We can consider the price a bargain for what he achieved in the first season under Pep Guardiola.

In the previous month, Haaland scored nine goals in only four matches. He’s had impressive games this season for The Citizens, but the last few weeks has seen the best against RB Leipzig when the Norwegian scored five goals in only 63 minutes.

Victor Osimhen (Napoli)

Victor Osimhen - the best striker in Seria A

Napoli are the most pleasant surprise this season. They are on the course to win their first title since 1990. Victor Osimhen is, by far, the best Serie A goalscorer this season, with 21 goals. In March, he scored four goals in four matches for the club.

The Nigerian is constantly trying to use his off-the-ball pace to make quality scoring chances. Always busy, he is constantly on his toes, trying to exploit any room the defense will give him. With him (and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia) in the lineup, Napoli are a scary side for any opponent.

Antoine Griezmann (Atletico Madrid)

Antoine Griezmann played a great month with Atletico and France

Atletico Madrid didn’t have the best start to the 2022/23 season, but lately they are playing great, so Diego Simeone’s team should have another top four LaLiga finish. The team leader in March was Antoine Griezmann, with two goals and one assist. He is scoring goals, assisting, and creating, so he is carrying his team throughout his season’s best form.

When a player is past age 30, the ability to reinvent himself in a different role is usually crucial. This season, Griezmann is doing everything in his power to make his teammates better, to support them and to serve them. In addition to his performance in LaLiga, Antoine Griezmann also scored for France against the Netherlands in a EURO qualifier last month.

Harry Kane (Tottenham)

Harry Kane - top player from Tottenham Hotspur

For Tottenham, nothing has changed in the last few years. As a team, they are failing to make the final step toward the title. On the bright side, however, another thing that doesn't change is Harry Kane.

In March, the attacker scored five goals, including two goals for England in the EURO qualifiers. With Harry Kane in the squad, Tottenham have that one player they can rely on in every match.

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)

Mohamed Salah - best forward of Liverpool and Egypt

Liverpool are having the worst season in Jurgen Klopp’s era, as they will likely stay mid-table and nowhere near any trophies. Overall, Mohamed Salah’s form this season hasn’t differed dramatically from the team’s form.

Still, we should recognise his improvement in March. In six matches during the previous month, the Egyptian had five goals and two assists, including two goals for the national team in the African Cup of Nations qualifications.

With this improvement, maybe The Reds have some chance to attack the positions that will give them European Cup football next season.

Griezmann, Kane and Salah are all known quantities, and while Osimhen had an outstanding 2022/23 season at Napoli, my biggest question is about Holland. He scored astonishing 36 goals in the league and 12 more in UEFA Champions League for Manchester City. Will he be able to keep such a scoring rate? Then we might be looking at the greatest striker ever.
