Slovakia return to international action after earning a 2:2 friendly draw against Montenegro in June. Ondrej Duda’s late goal rescued a draw for the Slovaks. 

Vladimir Weiss's side had previously secured home victories against Romania (2:0) and Malta (2:1) in their friendly ixtures over the summer. 

The Falcons missed out on World Cup qualification after a remarkable 4:3 defeat against Kosovo last March, and now turn their attention to League C of the Nations League after failing to secure promotion from this division two years ago. 

A lack of defensive solidity has been an issue this year. Slovakia leaked 13 goals in their last five games including a 6:0 thrashing against Germany. 

The Slovaks did perform well in their home fixtures during the World Cup qualifiers, though, securing three wins from three, while keeping clean sheets in each of those victories. 

Head coach Weiss has selected an experienced squad featuring Martin Dubravka, Milan Skriniar, David Hancko, Stanislav Lobotka, Ondrej Duda and Lukas Haraslin. 

David Strelec should lead the attack, while Tomas Suslov and Haraslin are also likely to feature for the home side.

Moldova make the trip to Presov after claiming a 1:1 friendly draw against Armenia in their most recent fixture.

Lilian Popescu's side also drew 2:2 with Bulgaria after beginning the year with a 3:2 defeat in Cyprus.

Both teams scored in all three of Moldova's matches in 2026, with the Tricolours finding the net five times in those fixtures.

Over a longer period, BTTS landed in all but two of Moldova’s last nine international fixtures.

Despite some improvements in the forward areas, victories remain hard to come by. The visitors failed to win any of their last 15 matches.

On the road, Moldova lost six of their last eight games, including a disastrous 11:1 defeat against Norway in World Cup qualification last year. 

Head coach Popescu has a 26 -man squad available this week. Virgiliu Postolachi has withdrawn through injury with Nicolae Rotaru promoted from the under-21 squad as his replacement. 

Dmitri Mandricenco, Petru Popescu and Rotaru are competing for attacking roles, while Mihail Caimacov should provide the creative spark in midfield.
