Royale Union Saint-Gilloise come into Tuesday’s Champions League qualification contest looking to make home advantage count in the first leg.

The Belgian side finished last season in strong form, including a 5:1 victory against Anderlecht in May before a strong pre-season saw them win five of their six warm-up fixtures.

Most recently, David Hubert’s side lifted silverware with a penalty shootout victory against Club Brugge in the final of the Belgian Super Cup. Kevin Mac Allister’s second-half goal secured a 1:1 draw before USG emerged victorious with a 5:4 spotkick triumph.

High-scoring outcomes have been frequent for the Belgians. At least three goals were scored in 12 of their last 14 games since the end of last season. A lack of clean sheets has made BTTS a solid choice when USG are involved. Each of their last five games finished with both teams on the scoresheet. 

Head coach Hubert has no reported injury issues. Union SG have strengthened their squad this summer, with Herve Koffi arriving on loan from RC Lens and Ondrej Kricfalusi joining from Banik Ostrava.

Darius Olaru, Relebohile Mofokeng and Ilan Hurtevent are further new faces available for the home side.

Bodo/Glimt make the trip to Belgium in superb form after an impressive run of results in the Eliteserien. The Norwegians picked up five successive wins in July, scoring 13 while keeping clean sheets in all five wins.

Kjetil Knutsen’s side were particularly impressive in their most recent runout - a 4:0 home win against Lillestrom on Friday. Jens Petter Hauge was on the scoresheet in a dominant victory at Aspmyra Stadion.

Over a longer period, Bodo/Glimt are unbeaten in their last ten competitive fixtures, leaving them top of the Eliteserien, one point clear of champions Viking. 

The Norwegians have also built a superb European reputation in recent seasons, beating Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan during last season’s Champions League run, having also claimed notable Europa League victories against Porto, Besiktas and Lazio the previous campaign.

Head coach Kjetil Knutsen can no longer call on Kasper Hogh following the Dane’s transfer to Scottish champions Celtic.

Bodo/Glimt also have three injury concerns ahead of Tuesday’s trip to Belgium, with August Mikkelsen ruled out with a knock, Hakon Evjen sidelined with a knee injury and Ulrik Saltnes also unavailable.
