The last quarter-final duel in the World Cup brings us the duel between the reigning champs, Argentina, and Switzerland. These two teams have played completely different games in the 1/16 Finals as Argentina delivered a 3:2 win in a rollercoaster game with Egypt, while Switzerland won on penalties after a 0:0 draw with Colombia in regular time.
Let's break down the game and find the best possible bet for this World Cup quarter-final tie.

These teams last met in the 2014 World Cup 1/8 Finals when Argentina eventually won 1:0, but after extra time, given the game in regular phase finished 0:0. In total, these teams met five times - Argentina won twice (in regular time) and the remaining matches ended in draws.
When it comes to the number of goals, only one of those five h2h games ended with three or more goals, while both teams scored in three out of five h2h games.
Argentina team overview
Argentina came to the World Cup as one of the main favorites to win it all. And in the group stage, they were amazing, winning all three games pretty easily. However, in the knockout phase, they unexpectedly had big problems against Cape Verde and Egypt. That is probably the easiest path for any team in the knockout phase, and yet, Messi and the company barely squeezed out the wins there. We were particularly unimpressed with the lack of tools to attack the low block as they stubbornly attacked through the middle. However, in the last game, when they went all-attack mode, it was evident just how potent they are. So, it will definitely be interesting to see how they will attack Switzerland after they closed the game very well against Colombia.
In the previous game, Lionel Scaloni made a big change, putting Julian Alvarez in the starting eleven and leaving Lautaro Martinez on the bench. However, that did not look great, and we expect Martinez back in the starting lineup.

Switzerland team overview
Switzerland are trying to reach the World Cup semi-finals for the first time ever in their history. And there is no better way of doing that than by eliminating the reigning champs. We can safely say they fulfilled their goals and will approach this game with very little pressure. Through the Group Stage, Switzerland had some uncharacteristically bad defensive performances, but that changed in the knockout phase. After failing to keep their net intact in all three GS games, they kept it against Algeria and Colombia in the 1/32 and 1/16 Finals.
In the previous game, coach Yakin was without Johan Manzambi, who was probably their best player at the WC. He has been huge for their offense, and his potential absence is a major factor. In four games at the WC, he scored three goals and assisted two.

Prediction
Even though Argentina played two high-scoring games in the knockout phase, we believe they are not a team that likes that type of match. After two big warnings against Cape Verde and Egypt, allowing two goals per game, we believe they will approach this match a lot more cautiously and try to slow the pace of the match.
Meanwhile, Switzerland will most likely try to recreate what they have done against Colombia. They have shown they can defend with numbers and not let too many clear chances for the opponents. We believe they should offer another good defensive performance against Argentina. On the other hand, their offense really looked poor against Colombia because they committed too much on defense, and we believe they will have a hard time scoring here.
Considering all the above, we believe that under 2.5 goals is the safest option for this World Cup quarter-final tie.
3 Reasons why we should see fewer than three goals
- Switzerland will most likely miss their key offensive player, Jhan Manzambi
- Switzerland went under 2.5 goals in both knockout round games
- The last h2h game ended 1:0 in Argentina's favor
Main prediction Argentina - Switzerland
Under 2.5 goals
