Leicester City Football Club and Ruud van Nistelrooy have mutually agreed that Ruud’s contract with the Club as First Team Manager will terminate with immediate effect.

Ruud van Nistelrooy was unable to help Leicester City avoid relegation and left the club by mutual consent at the end of June. The Foxes will play their first official match at home versus Sheffield Wednesday on August 10, so time is running out for them. We took the odds from our long-term partner, William Hill.
Manager | Odds |
Sean Dyche | 2.10 |
Danny Röhl | 2.50 |
Lee Carsley | 6.00 |
Michael Carrick | 9.00 |
Liam Rosenior | 17.00 |
Marti Cifuentes | 17.00 |
Gary O'Neil | 17.00 |
Dyche is the favourite for the role, according to the bookies, mainly due to 10+ years of experience in the Championship and Premier League. Everton sacked the Englishman in January after a run of poor results, and he is still without a job. He was named the Premier League Manager of the Month three times and also won the promotion from the Championship twice with Burnley. His honours and past results make him an ideal candidate for the position.
Ironically, Röhl is still the coach of Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester's first opponents in the new season. The German is only 36 years old, and his managerial experience is less than two years. In 2024, he helped the Owls avoid relegation from the Championship, while last season, they finished in 12th place. According to rumours, he has informed Sheffield Wednesday players that he is leaving the club, and Leicester can opt for a less well-known specialist, given their recent financial troubles.

The last genuine applicant for the job is former Republic of Ireland midfielder Carsley, who has plenty of coaching experience. He worked with Coventry City, Brentford, and Birmingham City and had a stint as England's interim manager after Gareth Southgate's departure. While his background is impressive, we believe that Leicester simply can't afford Carsley at the current moment, while the manager himself should have more challenging offers this summer.
We believe that betting on Röhl at 2.50 is well worth considering. Leicester may face a points deduction after being charged with allegedly breaching the English Football League's financial regulations, which could lead to the sale of top players and cutting all costs possible. In this situation, hiring Röhl seems like a good option, and the German has already indicated that he is leaving Sheffield Wednesday.
