While Argentina already clinched first place, England and Portugal will try to do the same on the last Matchday of the group stage. Algeria, Austria, Croatia, DR Congo and Ghana still have jobs to do. MightyTips is back with its World Cup value bet of the day, risky parlay of the day, match predictions for every game, and some tournament trivia. One important rule for World Cup betting at this stage of the competition is to avoid automatically backing every favourite. With some teams already qualified, eliminated, or needing only a specific result, motivation levels will vary significantly.

2026 World Cup value bet of the day

Croatia need a win to finish second in Group L and face the runner-up of Group K in the Round of 32. Moreover, they will be first with a victory and England losing points against Panama. The Croatians have a very experienced team full of class, and defence is not the only strength here. Meanwhile, while Ghana showed resilience and character against England, they had problems up front for the whole tournament, barely finding a goal against Panama. I believe that Croatia will win at 1.75. While the odds are not the best, I just can’t see any other outcome.

Group L

Croatia - Ghana: What to look for?

Croatia and Ghana enter a decisive Group L showdown with qualification still within reach. Croatia recovered from an opening defeat to England by beating Panama, while Ghana earned a win over Panama and a resilient goalless draw against England. Victory would guarantee a place in the Round of 32 for either side, while the loser could still have a chance as one of the best third-placed teams, depending on other results. Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has emerged as one of the tournament's breakout performers with consecutive clean sheets. Neither team has reported any major new injury concerns ahead of kickoff.

Panama - England: What to look for?

England know victory over already-eliminated Panama might secure first place in Group L after beating Croatia and drawing with Ghana. Thomas Tuchel's side were frustrated in their last outing but remain in control of the group, with Eberechi Eze insisting the squad is ignoring outside criticism. Panama have nothing but pride to play for after consecutive defeats ended their hopes of progression, although they will be eager to finish with a positive result. England are expected to field a strong lineup despite qualification being within touching distance, yet defender Reece James is questionable with a muscle problem.

Group K

Colombia - Portugal: What to look for?

Colombia arrive as Group K leaders after successful victories against Uzbekistan and DR Congo, while Portugal have four points, so this is a battle for first place. Both nations have already secured qualification for the Round of 32, so the main motivation is avoiding a potentially tougher knockout path by finishing top. Portugal's experienced attack, led by Cristiano Ronaldo, has been clinical, while Colombia have relied on defensive organisation and timely goals. Defender Tomas Araujo is doubtful for Portugal.

DR Congo - Uzbekistan: What to look for?

Neither DR Congo nor Uzbekistan can finish in the top two of Group K, but both still have realistic hopes of advancing as one of the best third-placed teams. That makes this a virtual knockout match, with victory likely to keep the winner alive. DR Congo earned a creditable draw against Portugal before narrowly losing to Colombia, while World Cup debutants Uzbekistan followed an opening defeat with a heavy loss to Portugal. The Congolese have shown greater defensive resilience and may carry the psychological edge. There are no widely reported fresh injury concerns, allowing both coaches to field near full-strength sides.

Group J

Algeria - Austria: What to look for?

Austria and Algeria meet with qualification still at stake in Group J. Austria defeated Jordan before losing to Argentina, while Algeria recovered from their opening defeat to Argentina by edging Jordan. Both teams remain capable of reaching the Round of 32, either through second place or among the best third-placed finishers, making every goal potentially decisive. Austria's organised pressing under Ralf Rangnick will be tested by Algeria's pace and direct attacking play. Argentina have already sealed top spot, leaving this contest to determine the remaining positions.

Jordan - Argentina: What to look for?

Argentina have already secured first place in Group J after consecutive victories over Algeria and Austria. Lionel Scaloni may therefore rotate parts of his squad, although maintaining momentum remains important before the knockout stage. Jordan, meanwhile, have lost both group matches and are already eliminated, leaving pride as their only motivation. Even so, facing the world champions offers a memorable opportunity, and Jordan will look to produce a disciplined defensive display. Argentina's superior quality makes them clear favourites, but possible squad rotation could provide opportunities for fringe players to impress.

Player of the day: Luka Modrić (Croatia)

Modrić remains the heartbeat of Croatia's golden generation and continues to rewrite his country's record books. The 40-year-old captain recently became just the fourth man in international football history to reach 200 caps, extending his record as Croatia's most-capped player. He is also appearing at a fifth World Cup, another national record, after helping Croatia reach the 2018 final, where he won the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player, and the 2022 semi-finals, earning the Bronze Ball. Croatia now need another influential display from Modrić against Ghana, with their hopes of reaching the knockout stage resting on the veteran playmaker's leadership and creativity.

World Cup trivia

On 27 June 1954, the World Cup witnessed one of its most infamous matches as Hungary defeated Brazil 4-2 in the quarter-finals. Nicknamed the "Battle of Berne," the game featured three red cards, numerous violent fouls, and even fighting in the tunnel after the final whistle. It remains one of the most ill-tempered matches in World Cup history.
