West Brom vs Burnley prediction 23.08.2026 | EFL Championship

West Brom started the Championship campaign with an important away victory, coming from behind to defeat Norwich 2-1 at Carrow Road. The result extended their positive competitive start after they had also beaten Rotherham 4-1 in the Carabao Cup first round. 

James Morrison's side showed considerable resilience against Norwich and will now make their first home appearance of the Championship season. However, their defensive options remain a concern. The Baggies are dealing with a significant centre-back injury crisis, with Kyle Bartley and Semi Ajayi among the players unavailable, while Paddy McNair is also reportedly struggling with a hamstring problem. 

Ousmane Diakité is another fitness concern after picking up an injury against Norwich and is expected to undergo an assessment before the game. Jayson Molumby could therefore be required in midfield.

Burnley arrive after an entertaining 2-2 draw with West Ham in Nicky Hayen's first Championship match in charge. The Clarets trailed 2-0 but produced an excellent late comeback, with Zian Flemming scoring twice in the final stages to rescue a point. 

Their summer squad rebuilding has continued, with Manchester City defender Max Alleyne arriving on a season-long loan to strengthen the defence. However, Burnley are still adapting to Hayen's methods and have yet to record a competitive victory this season, drawing against Notts County in the EFL Cup before the West Ham game. 

Josh Cullen is currently unavailable through injury, while Tammer Bany has also been ruled out. Mikey Johnston is still building his fitness, although Burnley otherwise have considerable attacking depth available.
