Borussia Dortmund begin their competitive campaign after a mixed run of form in their pre-season preparations. 

Dortmund began their summer schedule with a 1:0 victory against FC Tokyo before a thrilling 3:2 win against EPL champions Arsenal. 

The Black and Yellow completed their warm-up schedule with a 2:2 draw against Roma at Signal Iduna Park. Serhou Guirassy was among the scorers for BVB.

Niko Kovac’s side completed six pre-season contests, picking up three wins, one draw and two defeats. 

Despite a poor start to the campaign last season, Dortmund eventually finished second in the Bundesliga, collecting 71 points from their 34 league fixtures but 16 behind the Bavarians. 

A lack of consistency has plagued the Black and Yellow in 2026. Dortmund lost seven games since the turn of the year, including five defeats in their 12 most recent competitive fixtures. 

BVB boss Kovac has several injury concerns before Saturday’s Supercup. Carney Chukwuemeka, Maximilian Beier, Nico Schlotterbeck and Emre Can are expected to miss the contest. 

Recent arrival Giannis Konstantelias is unlikely to start after only completing his move from PAOK this week.

Bayern Munich make the trip to Dortmund after completing a superb domestic campaign under Vincent Kompany.

The Bavarians won 28 of their 34 Bundesliga matches, scoring a remarkable 122 goals and suffering only one defeat.

Bayern also lifted the DFB-Pokal after claiming a 3:0 victory against Stuttgart in May’s final. Their hopes of completing the treble ended with a Champions League semi-final defeat against Paris Saint-Germain.

Kompany’s side responded to an opening pre-season loss against Wehen Wiesbaden by claiming five successive victories.

Bayern beat Jeju United, Aston Villa and RB Leipzig before completing their preparations with a 4:2 comeback victory against Heidenheim on Tuesday. Felipe Chavez, Arijon Ibrahimovic, Luis Diaz and Nathaniel Brown were all on target. 

Head coach Kompany has some selection issues to ponder this week. 

Jamal Musiala will miss the Supercup after being diagnosed with a temporary and treatable neurological condition. The midfielder suffered two collapses during Bayern’s recent warm-up fixtures and is now receiving medical treatment. 

Konrad Laimer, Lennart Karl and Serge Gnabry are also expected to remain unavailable.

Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Luis Diaz should return to the starting XI after appearing from the bench against Heidenheim.
