Sønderjyske finished comfortably clear of the relegation places last season and now begin another Superliga campaign looking to establish themselves in mid-table. Their pre-season has focused on improving defensive organisation after conceding too many goals against the league's stronger sides during the previous campaign.

Home form will again be vital if Sønderjyske are to achieve another comfortable season, and opening in front of their own supporters offers an immediate opportunity to make a statement.

Manager Thomas Nørgaard has few selection concerns ahead of the opener. According to the latest squad reports, Sønderjyske are expected to have a virtually full-strength squad available, giving the coaching staff plenty of flexibility when selecting the starting eleven.

Midtjylland once again enter the season among the favourites for the title after finishing second in the 2025/26 Superliga. They also enjoyed another strong European campaign and continue to possess one of the deepest squads in Danish football. 

The visitors remain particularly dangerous in the final third, with last season's leading scorer Franculino Djú expected to spearhead the attack after another prolific campaign. Midtjylland have also strengthened their squad depth during the summer and possess quality throughout the pitch.

There are, however, a handful of injury concerns. Defender Ousmane Diao, forward Júnior Brumado and youngster Mikel Gogorza are all expected to miss the trip to Haderslev, although Midtjylland have sufficient depth to cope with those absences without significantly weakening their starting lineup.
