While they recorded convincing victories over lower-tier opponents Renens (9-0) and Sarraz-Eclepens (3-0), tougher examinations exposed some defensive weaknesses, with defeats against Flamengo (0-2) and Xamax (1-2) highlighting areas requiring improvement.

However, their final warm-up match before the Super League opener provided a much-needed boost, as Luka Elsner’s side delivered an impressive all-round display to sweep aside Yverdon Sport with a 3-0 victory, and they will now aim to carry that momentum into their opening league fixture against opponents who have historically caused them problems.

The club have taken a relatively quiet approach during the summer transfer window, making no major additions so far and keeping the core of last season’s squad intact. That continuity could prove valuable, with team chemistry and familiarity potentially playing a key role in their pursuit of a stronger campaign.

Despite being Switzerland's most decorated club with a record 27 league titles, Grasshopper enter the new campaign surrounded by considerable uncertainty off the pitch. At the end of June, the club's American ownership group, linked to LAFC, made the surprising decision to sell its majority stake after overseeing three consecutive seasons in which survival, rather than success, became the primary objective.

The ownership transition has been followed by a significant squad overhaul, with several influential first-team players departing during the summer. As a result, expectations remain modest, and Grasshopper appear far more likely to be involved in another battle to preserve their top-flight status than to challenge for European qualification.

Their preparations have done little to ease those concerns, as Peter Zeidler's men finished pre-season on a worrying note, suffering three consecutive defeats while conceding exactly three goals in each of those matches against Wil, Panathinaikos and Altach. Those performances exposed clear defensive frailties and suggested that both the confidence and overall balance of the squad remain far from where the coaching staff would like them to be ahead of the new Super League season.

Zeidler is still searching for greater defensive stability, while his selection options have also been limited by injuries. Saulo Decarli, Simone Stroscio, Oscar Clemente and striker Luke Plange are all expected to remain unavailable, leaving the Grasshopper boss with several important decisions to make before the league opener.
