Thun have won all three H2H matches against Luzern last season. Away from home, it was 2-1, while in Thun, the home side triumphed 4-1 and 2-1. It is worth noting that Luzern's last victory against their next opponent was almost three years ago, when they won 3-1 after extra time in the cup.
Luzern team overview
In the last three seasons, Luzern have been regularly a mid-table team, and they expect another similar campaign. Luzern are among the teams with the lowest budget in the Super League, but they have a well-known system, and it would be surprising if Jorg Portmann's team gets involved in the relegation battle. Luzern were excellent in the preseason with three victories in four matches. The worst game was the last one, when they lost 2-1 against St. Truiden.
Luzern are very active in the transfer window this summer. The team lost a lot of important players, but they also signed a few very interesting names. The biggest addition should be Simon Simoni, a goalkeeper who came from Eintracht Frankfurt and should replace Pascal Loretz. Notable signings are also Loic Luthi (from Winterthur), Aurelio Oehlers (Volendam), and experienced Leonardo Bertone (Thun).
The only Luzern player who should miss the opening round is defender Bung Meng Freimann due to a serious foul in the last season. In his absence, Stefan Knezevic and Loic Luthi should be a pair of center-backs against Thun.

Thun team overview
One of the biggest surprises in European football last season was Thun's title. Only a year earlier, they played in the Challenge League, and probably nobody could have seen Thun dominating domestic football. Although they won their first Super League trophy, Thun is significantly weaker now, and a mid-table position seems much more realistic. Gian-Luca Privitelli's team won only one of three preseason matches. Thun had their first game of the season a few days ago, when they played 1-1 at home in the Champions League qualification against Dinamo Zagreb.
Many important players from last season left Thun. The most significant departures are Franz-Ethan Meichtry, Elmin Rastoder, and Leonardo Bertone, and replacing the quality and influence of that trio will be no easy task. On the other hand, Thun signed Nicolas Burgy (from Odense), Dorian Derbaci (Aarau), Nassim Zoukit (Aarau), Nico Maier (BW Linz), and Mats Seiler (Young Boys).
Genis Montolio is injured and will not play on Saturday in Luzern. All other players are available.
