Real Sociedad return to La Liga action after a thrilling Copa del Rey triumph against Atlético Madrid last weekend. Following a topsy-turvy 2:2 draw, the Txuri-urdin eventually prevailed to secure only their fourth Copa del Rey title with a 4:3 victory in the penalty shootout.

Pellegrino Matarazzo’s side have been in mixed form over the past two months, recording four victories, three defeats and three draws in ten games played since the start of February. 

Similarly inconsistent in home fixtures, the Basque side failed to win eight of 16 home La Liga games this season. 

With seven games to play in the 25/26 campaign, Sociedad sit seventh in the division, only one point ahead of Getafe in the race for European spots. Of course, with the Copa del Rey in the bag, the hosts have already secured a place in the Europa League next season. 

Head coach Matarazzo has three players missing for Wednesday’s La Liga contest. Sergio Gómez is suspended following a red card, while Igor Zubeldia (hamstring) is ruled out through injury, with Arsen Zakharyan doubtful due to a stomach virus.

Getafe comes into Wednesday’s La Liga fixture looking for a response after a poor performance in their 1:0 defeat at Levante last weekend. 

Carlos Espí’s 83rd minute goal secured a well-deserved win for the La Liga strugglers.

Before that defeat, Getafe had enjoyed a strong run of form, securing six wins and two draws from ten previous La Liga fixtures. The Azulones now find themselves only three points behind sixth-placed Celta in an intriguing battle for European qualification places. 

The visitors will also take confidence from their most recent trip to Reale Arena, with three second-half goals securing a commanding 3:0 win in January of last year.

José Bordalás is unable to call on four first-team players for the trip to the Basque country. Zaid Romero is suspended, while Domingos Duarte is banned due to an accumulation of yellow cards. Borja Mayoral (knee) and Juanmi (knee) are both ruled out through injury.
