Germany warmed-up for Sunday’s World Cup contest in Texas with a hard-fought 2:1 win against World Cup hosts USA in a friendly fixture last weekend. Hai Havertz and Leroy Sane bagged goals in an entertaining contest at Soldier Field.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side have enjoyed an excellent run of form in the past year, securing nine successive victories since a 2:0 defeat against Slovakia in 2025. Recent friendly victories included a thrilling 4:3 win against Switzerland and a dominant 4:0 win against Finland.

Head coach Nagelsmann has been dealt a blow with the loss of Bayern teenager Lennart Karl, who has been ruled out of the World Cup after sustaining an injury against the USA. RB Leipzig's Assan Ouedraogo has replaced the 18-year-old in the German squad.

Curaçao completed their World Cup preparations with a comfortable 4:0 victory against Aruba last weekend. 

After a goalless first half, second-half strikes from Joshua Brenet, Jeremy Antonisse, Livano Comenencia and Juninho Bacuna secured a morale-boosting win for Dick Advocaat’s side.

Before that victory, the CONCACAF qualifier suffered a 4:1 defeat against Scotland in their penultimate warm-up fixture. High-scoring outcomes have been frequent for the Caribbean nation, with an average of four goals scored per game in their six most recent fixtures. 

The smallest nation ever to qualify for the World Cup finals, with a population of just over 150,000, Curaçao also suffered friendly defeats against Australia (5:1) and China (2:0) in March.

Head coach Dick Advocaat is likely to revert to much of the same side that slipped to defeat against Scotland at the end of May. Tahith Chong, Juninho Bacuna and Leandro Bacuna are among several players expected to return to the first XI this weekend.
