FC Porto turn their attention to the Taça de Portugal semi-final after a comfortable 2-0 win against Tondela on Sunday. Second-half goals from Gabri Veiga (48') and Victor Froholdt (65') secured a well-deserved home victory.

Francesco Farioli’s side had failed to win three of their previous four matches, following a home draw against Famalicão and a two-legged Europa League defeat to Nottingham Forest.

While usually defensively solid, Porto had failed to keep clean sheets in five successive fixtures before their weekend win against Tondela. Four of those six games finished with BTTS, an outcome witnessed in each of four previous fixtures against Sporting CP at the Estádio do Dragão.

Head coach Farioli remains unable to call on four key first-team players. Samu Aghehowa and Luuk de Jong are both ruled out with ACL injuries, while Nehuén Pérez (Achilles tendon rupture) and Martim Fernandes (ankle) are also sidelined.

Sporting CP make the trip to Porto after a painful 2-1 home defeat against Benfica all but ended their hopes of retaining the Primeira Liga title. Rafa Silva’s stoppage-time winner sparked scenes of celebration on the visitors’ bench as Benfica moved above Sporting into second place.

With just five games remaining, Sporting now sit eight points behind league leaders Porto, albeit having played one game fewer.

Like the home side, Sporting CP also suffered European disappointment against English opposition earlier this month as their Champions League run came to an end with a narrow 1-0 aggregate defeat against Arsenal.

Head coach Rui Borges has three confirmed absentees this week. Fotis Ioannidis, Iván Fresneda (muscle) and Nuno Santos are all ruled out through injury.
