FA Cup
Recent meetings between these sides have largely favored Manchester City. Chelsea have struggled to consistently compete with Guardiola’s side since their 2021 UEFA Champions League final victory. The teams met twice in the Premier League this season, drawing 1-1 at the Etihad before City comfortably won 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea team overview
Chelsea’s season has been turbulent. A difficult run of league form saw them suffer six consecutive Premier League defeats at one stage, increasing pressure around the squad and coaching setup. Apart from three consecutive FA Cup wins en route to the final, Chelsea failed to secure a single victory in their other nine matches across domestic and European competitions, losing eight and drawing just once.
Despite those struggles, the Blues have occasionally shown resilience in cup competitions. Cole Palmer remains Chelsea’s key creative outlet, while Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez are expected to play crucial roles in midfield if fully available. Nicolas Jackson has also contributed important goals during Chelsea’s FA Cup run.
Defensively, Chelsea continue to battle injury concerns. Reece James, Levi Colwill, and Trevoh Chalobah have all dealt with fitness issues in recent weeks.
Chelsea’s biggest concern heading into the final is their inconsistency without possession. They have looked vulnerable against aggressive pressing sides, and City’s ability to dominate territory could force Chelsea into a reactive game plan for large stretches of the match.

Manchester City team overview
Manchester City arrive at Wembley in considerably stronger form. Guardiola’s side are unbeaten in the league since mid-January and remain alive in the title race while also having already secured the League Cup this season. The Citizens’ last defeats came in a two-legged UEFA Champions League showdown with Real Madrid, while they have remained unbeaten in domestic competitions for nearly four months.
Erling Haaland once again leads City’s attack and remains the focal point of their offensive structure. The Norwegian striker has delivered consistently in domestic competitions, while Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki have also added creativity and unpredictability in wide areas.
City’s route to the final showcased both their attacking firepower and resilience. After dismantling Liverpool 4-0 earlier in the competition, they came from behind against Southampton in the semi-final to secure another Wembley appearance.
There are still some defensive concerns for Guardiola. Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol have recently dealt with injury problems, while John Stones has also faced fitness uncertainty.

Prediction
Expect Chelsea to remain competitive early on, but Manchester City’s sustained pressure and superior attacking depth should eventually make the difference.
Prediction: Manchester City to Win.
Three reasons we expect Manchester City to Win
- Manchester City are unbeaten in domestic competitions since 17 January, when they lost to Manchester United.
- Excluding the FA Cup, Chelsea are winless in their last nine matches across the Premier League and Champions League fixtures.
- Chelsea have failed to beat Manchester City in their last 13 meetings across all competitions - their most recent victory over Pep Guardiola’s side dates back to 2021.
