Belgium and Iran look for their first World Cup victory when they square off in Group G on Sunday evening.
The Red Devils were held to an entertaining draw against Egypt in their opening fixture, while Iran also shared the spoils in a four-goal contest against New Zealand.
With both nations collecting one point from their first match, victory here would leave either side well placed to secure progress to the round of 32.
Belgium team overview
Belgium come into their second Group G fixture after a frustrating 1:1 draw against Egypt in their World Cup opener. Trailing at the interval, an own goal from Mohamed Hany rescued a share of the spoils for Rudi Garcia’s side.
The Red Devils dominated for long spells but were unable to turn their pressure into a winning performance against the resolute Egyptian defence.
The European qualifiers have been in solid form in the past year, remaining unbeaten in 14 internationals since March 2025. More recently, Belgium picked up victories in five of their last seven international fixtures.
Head coach Garcia could make one or two changes to his first XI. All-time leading scorer Romelu Lukaku could earn a recall after a substitute appearance against Iran.

Iran team overview
Iran arrive at SoFi Stadium after an entertaining 2:2 draw against New Zealand in their first Group G fixture. Mohammad Mohebi’s 15th international goal rescued a point for the Asian qualifiers.
Team Melli showed plenty of attacking quality but will have been frustrated to only claim a point against the Kiwis.
Unbeaten in their last four matches, Iran have shown some decent form in 2026 after finishing last year with defeats against Uzbekistan and Russia.
Head coach Amir Ghalenoei is expected to keep faith with much of the side that started against New Zealand. Roozbeh Cheshmi and Saman Ghoddos will feature if both can overcome slight knocks picked up in the draw against New Zealand.

Prediction
Belgium have the greater individual quality and should be capable of claiming the points after their draw against Egypt.
Iran are dangerous enough to cause problems, but I expect the Red Devils to edge their way to a vital Group G victory.
Three Reasons Why We Expect Belgium to Win/Over 2.5 Goals
- Belgium won 5 of their last 7 matches
- Belgium are unbeaten in their last 14 matches
- Belgium have seen over 2.5 goals in 9 of their last 10 wins
