Queen of the South vs Aberdeen prediction 22.07.2026 | League Cup

Queen of the South were excellent last year in League One, where they ended third. The team from Dumfries played in the promotion playoff but lost in the first round to Stenhousemuir. Queen of the South have big ambitions for the 2026/27 season, too, and it will not be a surprise if they are once again among the strongest teams in the competition. 

Queen of the South struggled in the preseason with two defeats. That was followed by a loss after penalties in the League Cup to Kelty Hearts. The best game of the young season Queen of the South had a few days ago, when they won 3-0 on the road against Brora Rangers. Although the guests were favorites to win, probably no one expected such a dominant performance. 

Last season was one of the worst for Aberdeen in the 21st century. They didn't have any big problems avoiding relegation, but still, the ninth position in the Premiership hardly satisfied them. It is worth mentioning that Aberdeen made some changes during the current transfer window, and they hope to return to at least mid-table. 

Aberdeen had four friendly matches this summer and won two of them (with two defeats). In the League Cup, Aberdeen won 2-0 against Brora Rangers and 2-1 against Queen's Park. Although Stephen Robinson's side have won both of their competitive matches and are on the verge of securing a place in the knockout stage, their performances have been far from convincing. 

Aberdeen won against Queen's Park in the previous match, but head coach Stephen Robinson wasn't fully satisfied. He said that efficiency could be much better, as the team had more than enough chances for another goal. Of course, Robinson said it is too early in the season and that they will work on it.
