Fenerbahçe begin another attempt to reach the UEFA Champions League league phase when they host Polish runners-up Górnik Zabrze in the first leg of their second qualifying round tie.
Having narrowly missed out on the Turkish Süper Lig title last season, the Istanbul giants enter the League Path as one of the favourites to progress, while Górnik return to Europe's elite competition for the first time in many years following an impressive domestic campaign.
Fenerbahce team overview
Fenerbahçe enter the tie as clear favourites thanks to their superior squad quality and European pedigree. The Turkish side have strengthened significantly during the summer, adding proven international quality to a squad already packed with experience. Recent arrivals, including Nathan Aké and Mason Greenwood, underline the club's ambition to finally secure Champions League football after falling short in previous qualifying campaigns.
The Turkish Süper Lig runners up enjoyed another strong domestic season, finishing second and earning their place in the League Path. Playing at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium has traditionally been one of Fenerbahçe's biggest strengths, with the Yellow Canaries boasting an outstanding home record across domestic and European competitions.
Team news is largely positive for the hosts, although midfielder Mert Hakan Yandaş serves a suspension, while Vedat Muriqi and Dorgeles Nene are expected to miss out through injury. Despite those absences, manager İsmail Kartal still has numerous attacking options capable of deciding the contest.

Gornik Zabrze team overview
Górnik Zabrze arrive in Istanbul as underdogs but full of confidence following an excellent 2025/26 Ekstraklasa campaign that secured a surprise second-place finish. Their qualification represents one of the club's greatest achievements in recent years and marks their return to Champions League qualifying after a lengthy absence.
They are unlikely to dominate possession against Fenerbahçe but will instead focus on staying compact and limiting space between the lines before looking to exploit transitions. Avoiding defeat would represent an outstanding result ahead of the return fixture in Zabrze.
Unlike their opponents, Górnik appear to have no significant injury concerns heading into the first leg, allowing the coaching staff to select from a fully fit squad.

Prediction
A home victory by more than one goal looks the most likely outcome, giving the Turkish giants a comfortable advantage ahead of next week's second leg in Poland.
Prediction: Fenerbahce Asian Handicap (-1.5).
Three reasons we expect Fenerbahce Asian Handicap (-1.5)
- Significant quality gap: Fenerbahçe possess a squad filled with international experience and players accustomed to competing at the highest European level.
- Excellent home record. The Turkish giants are traditionally formidable in Istanbul: Won 7 of their last 11 home UEFA matches (7W-3D-1L).
- Pressure to build a first-leg cushion. With a difficult away trip to Poland still to come, Fenerbahce will be eager to establish a comfortable aggregate lead at home.
Main prediction Fenerbahce - Gornik Zabrze
