Preston hopes for a different campaign after finishing with only one point more than the relegation zone in the previous season. It is still too early in the season, but it seems that the team from Deepdale is significantly better right now. Preston currently sits much closer to the promotion than the drop zone, but a mid-table finish still seems much more realistic. After a strong run of performances, Paul Heckingbottom's side have recently lost momentum, suffering back-to-back defeats. They lost 1-0 at home against Birmingham in the most recent outing. The home side ended the match with xG of 1.38, while the guests had 0.83, so Preston probably deserved at least one point. 

Preston's head coach, Paul Heckingbottom, was frustrated with he final score, but also proud of his team. He said, "First and foremost, I'm really proud of the performance and the team. We dominated the game, continually pushing to try to score. It's another game where our goalkeeper hasn't had a save to make and we've come away with nothing. It's really frustrating, but I'm really proud of the players."

Preston have problems with missing players. They will be without Robbie Brady, Will Keane, Brad Potts, Jordan Thompson, and Pol Valentin on Friday against Sheffield United. 

Sheffield United were expected to be among the strongest teams in the Championship this season, but after a dreadful first quarter of the campaign, they found themselves just one point above the relegation zone. However, there are signs of a turnaround as Sheffield United won the last two matches. In the last game, Sheffield United won 3-1 on the road against Blackburn. The home side had a lead after the first 45 minutes, but the guests dominated in the second half and recorded another victory that could provide a major confidence boost.

After an uphill battle and victory on Tuesday night in Blackburn, Sheffield United's boss, Chris Wilder, was very satisfied. He said, "I thought there was a real desire and drive from the players to get back into the game and then win it, which is satisfying from our point of view."

Oliver Arblaster, Tahith Chong, Tom Davies, and Gustavo Hamer are injured and will not play at Deepdale. Also, Ben Godfrey is questionable.
