Champions League
There have been only two previous competitive meetings between the sides, both coming in the 2024/25 Champions League quarter-finals. PSG won the first leg 3-1 in Paris before Villa produced a 3-2 victory at Villa Park.
Paris Saint-Germain team overview
PSG enter the Super Cup as the stronger side on paper after another outstanding 2025/26 campaign. Luis Enrique's team retained the Ligue 1 crown before successfully defending their Champions League trophy.
This pre-season, though, the French side have yet to hit top gear in their preparations for the upcoming domestic and European campaigns. They lost 3-0 to Mallorca before drawing 1-1 with Manchester United three days later, meaning they have yet to win during pre-season.
Several World Cup participants also returned late, potentially affecting their match sharpness, but Désiré Doué, Ousmane Dembélé and Fabian Ruiz are expected to start.
There are no major injury concerns, although Ruiz, Doué, Dembélé, Marquinhos and Achraf Hakimi could have their workloads managed following their late return, with all five expected to play at least 45 minutes.

Aston Villa team overview
Villa enjoyed their finest season under Unai Emery in 2025/26, finishing fourth in the Premier League and winning the Europa League with a 3-0 victory over Freiburg.
Their pre-season has been mixed. Villa beat Walsall 5-0, Indonesia All Stars 3-1 and BG Pathum United 3-1, but subsequently lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich in Hong Kong last weekend. That result leaves them with three wins and three defeats from six pre-season fixtures.
The major confirmed absence is Amadou Onana, who suffered an ACL injury at the World Cup and is expected to miss around nine months.
Boubacar Kamara has recovered sufficiently to feature against Bayern, while new signings such as João Gomes and Alejandro Garnacho could make their competitive debuts.

Prediction
PSG possess more match-winners in the final third, with Dembélé, Kvaratskhelia and Doué capable of exploiting gaps in Villa's defence. A high-scoring contest is possible given the two previous meetings and Villa's record of both scoring and conceding regularly in pre-season, but at the end of the day PSG should prevail.
Prediction: PSG to Win.
Three reasons we expect PSG to Win
- Superior European pedigree and big-game experience: PSG are the reigning Champions League winners.
- Greater attacking quality and squad depth: PSG have more match-winners in the final third.
- Aston Villa's defensive vulnerability: Aston Villa conceded in three of their six pre-season matches and recently lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich.
