Hungary vs Ukraine prediction 25.09.2026 | Nations League

After 2025, when Hungary lost their League A status and also failed to reach the World Cup, Marco Rossi's team is determined to get back on the right track. Hungary were solid so far in 2026, with three victories and one draw in four friendly matches. Their strong performances came largely from their defense, as Rossi's team conceded only two goals in the last four matches. In the previous game, they won 3-1 at home against Kazakhstan. The visitors played well and even led at halftime, but Hungary dominated after the break and secured another victory. 

Hungary have some problems ahead of the upcoming Nations League matches. They will be without Barnabas Varga, Roland Sallai, and Callum Styles. All three players have a serious role in the national team, but are currently injured. The biggest name in the team is without a doubt Dominik Szoboszlai, while Milos Kerkez, Willi Orban, and Alex Toth will have a big role, too. 

Ukraine are another team that struggled last year. They failed to return to the Nations League - League A, while in the World Cup qualifiers, Ukraine lost in the playoffs against Sweden. Andrea Maldera's team is likely the best in their Nations League group, and it will not be surprising to see them at the top of the standings. In their previous three games, Ukraine had friendlies, winning twice and losing once. The sole defeat came in the previous game, when they lost 2-1 on the road against Denmark. Ukraine struggled in defense that time and will need to do much better to take points from Budapest. 

Ukraine are not without problems ahead of the Nations League. The biggest miss is Brentford's midfielder Yegor Yarmolyuk. According to the Ukrainian head coach, he is not at 100%, and the national team didn't want to risk a bigger injury. Ukraine will also be without Artem Dovbyk, Ruslan Malinovsky, and Andriy Lunin. The biggest stars and the leaders for the upcoming matches will be Ilya Zabarnyi (PSG), Anatoliy Trubin (Benfica), Vitaliy Mykolenko (Everton), and Georgiy Sudakov (Benfica).
