Freiburg make the trip to Turkey in high spirits after an impressive 4-1 win against RB Leipzig in their final Bundesliga fixture of the season. First-half goals from Jan-Niklas Beste (24') and Igor Matanović (26') set SC on their way to a comprehensive victory at Europa-Park-Stadion. 

Julian Schuster’s men have been in mixed form, losing four of their last seven matches with only two wins picked up in that period. Three of those defeats came in 90 minutes while they also suffered extra-time heartbreak against VFB Stuttgart in the DFB Pokal semi-finals. 

The Germans secured their place in Wednesday’s final with a fine 4:3 aggregate win against Portuguese opponents Braga, but they will need to find new levels if they are to overcome a Villa side that has impressed in this competition. 

Frequently involved in high-scoring contests, eight of Freiburg’s last nine games finished with at least three goals scored. 

Head coach Schuster has four confirmed absentees this week. Daniel-Kofi Kyereh (knee), Maximilian Rosenfelder (hamstring), Patrick Osterhage (knee) and Yuito Suzuki (collarbone) are all ruled out through injury.

Aston Villa come into Wednesday’s Europa League final in fine form after a hugely impressive 4:2 win against Liverpool last Friday. Inspirational captain John McGinn was again among the goals while Olly Watkins bagged twice as the Villains secured Champions League qualification at Villa Park. 

Unai Emery’s side have been in mixed form at the end of the season, but have saved their best performances for the big occasions. Villa booked their ticket for Istanbul with a dominant 4:0 second-leg victory against Nottingham Forest in the semi-finals.

The EPL side will be confident of claiming a Europa League final triumph this week. The Villains won all but one of their last 11 matches in this competition, and now stand just one game away from their first trophy since 1996. 

Head coach Emery has three injury worries this week. Alysson (muscle) and Amadou Onana (calf) are ruled out through injury, while Emiliano Buendía is doubtful due to a knock picked up against Liverpool.
