Since relegation in 2020, Fortuna Dusseldorf in most seasons were close to promotion. Daniel Thioune's team entered the 2025/26 season as one of the strongest teams in the competition, but after seven rounds, they are only a mid-table team with ten points. Things are looking slightly better lately as Fortuna Dusseldorf lost only one of the last six matches in all competitions. In the previous game, Thioune's team won 1-0 on the road against Bochum. The home side ended the match with 65% ball possession and 16 shots on the goal, more than the guests, but Fortuna Dusseldorf still recorded another victory. 

Fortuna Dusseldorf have big problems with injuries. Florian Schock, Christopher Lenz, Tim Rossman, Elias Egouli, Hamza Anhari, and Julian Hettwer are unavailable for Friday's match against Nurnberg. Also, Florent Muslija, Emmanuel Iyoha, and Valgeir Lunddal skipped the training on Tuesday, so they could skip the upcoming clash, too. The 2025/26 season started terribly for Miroslav Klose's team with only four points from seven matches, so they could have big problems with avoiding relegation. Nurnberg lost two of the last three games. Last weekend, they lost 3-0 at home against Hertha Berlin.

Nurnberg are not playing well and there is a big possibility that Miroslav Klose will lose his job if the team doesn't win on Friday in Dusseldorf. After a defeat against Hertha, sporting director Joti Chatzialexiou said, "The game in Dusseldorf is crucial for the standings. We lacked the final decisiveness against Hertha, so we all have to work together to avoid dropping any points against Dusseldorf. I can't say what will happen after that. It's about the club that stands above everything else."

Nurnberg will be without Tarek Buchmann, Danilo Soares, Henri Koudossou, and Noah Maboulou on Friday in Dusseldorf. Also, Luka Lochoshvili and Adam Markhiev are questionable.
