Borussia Dortmund vs Freiburg prediction 26.04.2026 | Bundesliga

Borussia Dortmund come into Sunday`s Bundesliga fixture after back-to-back Bundesliga defeats for the first time since January 2025. 

After a disappointing 1:0 home defeat against Leverkusen, BVB slipped to a 2:1 defeat at Hoffenheim last weekend. Despite those reversals, Dortmund remain second in the Bundesliga, five points clear of third-placed RB Leipzig.

Usually a reliable force in the Bundesliga, particularly in home fixtures, Niko Kovač’s side picked up victories in 11 of 15 home league games this season. 

A dominant record in this fixture should give BVB further confidence this weekend. Dortmund secured victories in all but one of their last eight matches against Freiburg. All seven victories finished with at least three goals scored. 

Head coach Kovac is unable to call on four first team players this weekend. Felix Nmecha (knee), Karim Adeyemi (muscle) and Niklas Süle (knee) are all ruled out through injury, while Serhou Guirassy is doubtful due to concussion.

Freiburg return to Bundesliga business after a painful defeat at VFB Stuttgart in the DFB Pokal. After a 1:1 draw in 90 minutes, Tiago Tomás’s goal, in the final minute of extra-time condemned the Breisgau-Brasilianer to a heartbreaking semi-final defeat.

An improved run of form had seen Freiburg secure victories in four successive fixtures before their midweek DFB Pokal setback at VFB. The way side now sit seventh in the division, nine points behin sixth-placed Leverkusen. 

Julian Schuster’s side have struggled to find much consistency in their away performances, though. Freiburg lost eight and won just four of 15 Bundesliga road games this season. 

Head coach Schuster has three players missing for Sunday’s trip to Dortmund. Daniel-Kofi Kyereh (knee), Max Rosenfelder (hamstring) and Patrick Osterhage (knee) are all ruled out through injury.
