Bayern Munich welcome Borussia Dortmund on Saturday evening for the latest installment of Der Klassiker.

The hosts come into the contest after thrashing Magdeburg in the DFB Pokal on Wednesday, while Dortmund claimed a dramatic cup win against Werder Bremen 24 hours earlier.

Both teams remain unbeaten in the Bundesliga, but Bayern come into the contest as odds-on favourites to claim another win at Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich team overview

Bayern return to Bundesliga action after securing an emphatic 6:1 home victory against Magdeburg in the second round of the German Cup on Wednesday.

Michael Olise scored twice, while Ismael Saibari, Alphonso Davies, Nathaniel Brown and David Santos Daiber were also on target in a routine win for the Bundesliga champions.

Wednesday's victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bavarians after Bayern claimed an impressive 3:1 win at Freiburg last weekend. Dayot Upamecano and Serge Gnabry scored before Olise added a stoppage-time third.

Vincent Kompany’s men have been in solid form since the start of the season, with nine wins and four draws picked up from 13 unbeaten fixtures.

The high-scoring hosts have now scored 29 goals in their last seven games, with 21 scored in their four most recent home fixtures including a thumping 6:1 win against RB Leipzig.

Coming into this weekend's Der Klassiker Bayern sit top of the Bundesliga standings with 17 points from five wins and two draws. The in-form home side have scored 25 league goals while conceding only six.

Head coach Kompany remains sidelined with a serious virus issue. Assistant coach Aaron Danks will again take charge this weekend.

Harry Kane was rested against Magdeburg and is expected to return to the starting XI on Saturday. Michael Olise is also expected to come back into the side.

Danks has a few injury issues. Manuel Neuer, Luis Diaz and Jamal Musiala remain unavailable, while Joshua Kimmich faces a late fitness test.

Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund team overview

Borussia Dortmund make the trip to Munich after securing a dramatic 3:2 home victory against Werder Bremen in the DFB Pokal on Tuesday.

Serhou Guirassy and Carney Chukwuemeka put the hosts two goals ahead before Niclas Fullkrug struck twice for Bremen. Marcel Sabitzer’s stoppage-time goal eventually secured progress for BVB.

Dortmund have now secured victories in each of their last three games, including last weekend’s 1:0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Niko Kovac's side remain unbeaten in the Bundesliga this season and arrive in Munich level on points with the league leaders. Dortmund sit second in the division with 17 points from five wins and two draws. The tough-to-beat visitors scored 12 league goals while conceding only four.

The Black and Yellows have improved in defence but a dismal recent record in this fixture offers little encouragement. Dortmund lost 13 of their last 17 meetings including six of their last eight trips to Munich.

Head coach Kovac is unable to call on several players this weekend. Emre Can, Giannis Konstantelias and Justin Lerma are ruled out while Konstantinos Karetsas is unlikely to feature.

Prediction

Bayern have been irresistible at home this season and should prove too strong for a Dortmund side that regularly struggles in Munich.

I have my stake on a home win with at least four goals scored.

Three Reasons Why We Expect Over 3.5 Goals

  1. Bayern scored 21 goals in their last 4 home matches
  2. Bayern scored an average of 4.14 goal per game in their last 7 matches
  3. Bayern have seen over 3.5 goals in 9 of their last 11 wins against Dortmund
