Barcelona begin their 2026/27 UEFA Champions League campaign with a home meeting against Feyenoord on Wednesday. Hansi Flick's side enter the opening round in exceptional domestic form and will be strong favourites to make a winning start against the Dutch visitors.

Barcelona vs Feyenoord H2H stats

This is a relatively rare European meeting between two former European Cup winners. Barcelona and Feyenoord have faced each other only once previously, in the second round of the 1974/75 European Cup. After a 0-0 draw in Rotterdam, Barcelona produced a commanding 3-0 victory at the Camp Nou, with Carles Rexach scoring a hat-trick.

Barcelona also possess an excellent historical record against Dutch opposition. The last time FC Barcelona lost to Dutch opposition in the UEFA Champions League was in 2013, when Ajax beat Barcelona 2-1 in Amsterdam during the 2013/14 group stage.

FC Barcelona

Barcelona team overview

Barcelona could hardly have made a more convincing start to the new season. Flick's team have beaten Elche 5-0, Athletic Club 2-0, Rayo Vallecano 5-2 and Valencia 5-0, scoring 17 goals at an average of 4.3 per league game while conceding only twice.

Their attacking depth has been particularly impressive. Lamine Yamal produced two goals against Valencia, while Raphinha has made a prolific start to the campaign and Fermín López contributed a goal and two assists in the same match.

In terms of availability, Barcelona's injury situation should be monitored closely before kick-off. Recent reports have listed players including Eric García, Gavi and Frenkie de Jong among the fitness concerns, while Roony Bardghji has reportedly been ruled out for the entire season.

Feyenoord

Feyenoord team overview

Feyenoord have also started their domestic campaign positively, remaining unbeaten after five Eredivisie matches. Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side have recorded three wins and two draws, scoring 13 goals while conceding seven.

Their most recent result was arguably their most encouraging performance of the campaign: a 3-1 away victory over NEC. Feyenoord have been productive going forward, while both teams have scored in four of Feyenoord's five league matches so far.

Feyenoord's squad has undergone changes, with Ayase Ueda recently departing for Lille, potentially leaving the visitors with an important adjustment to make in the centre-forward position. Their fitness situation should also become clearer closer to kick-off.

Prediction

Feyenoord's defensive vulnerability could prove particularly problematic against Yamal, Raphinha and Barcelona's creative midfielders. Expect the Dutch side to compete aggressively, but Barcelona's individual player quality and formidable home record against Dutch opposition should ultimately make the difference. Still, Rayo Vallecano’s two goals in their 5-2 defeat at the Spotify Camp Nou proved that Barcelona can be vulnerable at the back, even against so-called lesser opposition, which should encourage Feyenoord to take risks.

Prediction: Both Teams to Score (BTTS).

Three reasons we expect BTTS

  1. Barcelona’s attacking form has been outstanding, with the Catalan giants scoring freely in the opening stages of the season.
  2. Barcelona have shown defensive vulnerability despite their excellent results, as conceding twice against Rayo Vallecano in a 5-2 victory.
  3. Feyenoord arrive with strong attacking momentum of their own and should be encouraged to play positively rather than simply defend, especially knowing that Barcelona’s high defensive line can leave space to exploit.
