The Champions League main phase is finally back. One of the first two games on Tuesday will be between the Greek and Austrian champions, AEK Athens and LASK. In the Qualifiers, AEK managed to win over Levski on a 4:0 aggregate, while LASK won against Celtic 5:4 in a super interesting duel.

Let's break down the game and find the best possible bet for this Champions League tie.

AEK Athens

AEK Athens team overview

AEK won the Greek title last season under coach Marko Nikolic, leaving Olympiacos six points behind. They did a decent job in the transfer window and are looking really good at the start of this season. Besides knocking out Levski Sofia in the Champions League Qualifiers, they also sit in 2nd place in the domestic league with seven points from the first three games. However, their offense is looking really strong, and they are definitely coming into this game full of optimism.

After a massive 5:0 win over Aris, coach Marko Nikolic spoke to the media. He was pleased with the overall performance, highlighting the team's mentality and attacking approach. However, he admitted they had some bad moments, particularly in the second part of the first half.

LASK Linz

LASK team overview

LASK had one of the best comebacks in modern football this season in the Qualifiers. After losing the first leg 3:0, they also had a 1:0 deficit in the second leg and then made a fantastic comeback, winning 5:1! Generally speaking, LASK have been really good this season, winning eight of the first nine games across competitions. They are also the 1st-placed team in the Bundesliga and the only squad with a maximum of 15 points. So, just like AEK, LASK is coming to the game with magnificent momentum.

Interestingly, midfielder Robert Ljubicic is on a loan deal from AEK and will most likely not be involved in the game. Moreover, Ramiz Harakate
is injured, while Samuel Adeniran is listed as questionable after missing the last three matches in domestic competitions due to a cheekbone injury he sustained. The potential absence of Samuel Adeniran is particularly worrisome for LASK, as he was incredible this season, scoring six goals in five appearances, including two against Celtic.

Prediction

Both teams have been superb offensively, and because of it, mostly played high-scoring games. AEK went over 2.5 goals in four out of seven games, while LASK went over the mentioned line in eight out of nine matches. Both offenses looked absolutely great thus far, with AEK averaging 2.57 goals per game, and LASK an incredible 3.7 goals per game. Yes, some of LASK's games were against poor teams, but a team that scores five goals against Celtic definitely has something to offer on offense.

Also, combined, these teams went over 2.5 goals in three out of four of their Champions League games (Qualifiers). Considering they are teams from the fourth pot, we expect both sides to go for a win, and we could see a high-scoring affair.

Considering all the above, we expect a high-scoring game, likely with both teams scoring.

3 Reasons why we should see three or more goals

  1. AEK Athens went over 2.5 goals in four out of seven games
  2. LASK went over 2.5 goals in eight out of nine games this season
  3. Combined, these teams went over 2.5 goals in three out of four CL Qualifiers games
