The 2026/27 UEFA Conference League is about to get underway, with the first matchday of the league phase taking place on October 15. Crystal Palace lifted the trophy last season after beating Rayo Vallecano in the final.

Below are the latest Conference League outright winner odds, with Brighton, Atalanta and Monaco entering the season as the three leading favourites.
Let's break down the main favourites to win the Conference League this season. We'll look at their biggest summer transfers, current form and performances, and assess their chances of lifting the trophy in Istanbul.
Brighton enter the tournament as the clear favourites. They qualified after finishing eighth in the Premier League and comfortably beat Tromsø 4-0 on aggregate in the play-offs. They have also started the new league season in great form, scoring 16 goals in their opening five games and beating Arsenal 3-0 along the way.
There were some big changes during the summer, with Carlos Baleba, Jan Paul van Hecke and Danny Welbeck leaving the club. Brighton responded by spending around €160 million on 11 new players, giving Fabian Hürzeler a huge squad to work with.
Squad depth could be Brighton's biggest advantage in this competition. Even with several important players missing, they have continued to score goals and win games. Their second team should be good enough to compete with most Conference League opponents, making Brighton deserved favourites for the trophy.
Another natural favourites to win are Atalanta. They have the highest UEFA coefficient of any team in the Conference League and arrive after two straight seasons in the Champions League. They also have plenty of experience in knockout football, having won the Europa League in 2024 with a dominant 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the final.
The squad still has plenty of quality, with Ederson, Giorgio Scalvini and Charles De Ketelaere among their key players. They are managed by Maurizio Sarri, who has already won the Europa League during his time at Chelsea.
However, Atalanta were relatively quiet in the transfer market. Marco Palestra left for Chelsea, with Gianluca Gaetano their only major signing involving a transfer fee. Their squad might not be as deep as Brighton's, so a lot could depend on how seriously Sarri prioritises the Conference League alongside Serie A.
The current Ligue 1 leaders will be hoping to finally bring some Conference League success to France. They finished seventh last season but still entered the league phase in Pot 1 and should have enough quality to make a deep run.
The summer was more difficult, with financial problems in French football forcing Monaco to sell Maghnes Akliouche and Aladji Bamba. Matthis Abline was their main investment coming the other way.
Monaco still have a young and exciting squad, and the Conference League should be a step down after two consecutive Champions League campaigns. Filipe Luís also arrives with plenty of trophy-winning experience from Flamengo, although managing in Europe will be something new for him. Squad depth could be their biggest concern, especially when the schedule becomes busier.
Freiburg are back in Europe after coming incredibly close to winning a trophy last season. Julian Schuster's team surprised many by reaching the Europa League final, although Aston Villa proved too strong in Istanbul and won 3-0. That run gave Freiburg plenty of valuable knockout experience, and dropping down to the Conference League should give them another good opportunity to go deep.
The biggest concern is the departure of Johan Manzambi. The midfielder played in all 15 of Freiburg’s Europa League matches last season before joining Aston Villa for €60 million this summer. Replacing such an important player will not be easy.
Braga reached the Europa League semi-finals last season, where they narrowly lost 4-3 on aggregate to Freiburg. They also finished fourth in Portugal, so they certainly have enough European experience to make another deep run.
However, Braga lost some important players during the summer. Rodrigo Zalazar moved to Sporting, while goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek joined Newcastle after keeping seven clean sheets in last season's Europa League matches. The squad was strengthened with players such as Jonas Wind, Denis Huseinbasic and Diogo Travassos, but replacing their key departures will not be easy.
Braga showed last season how dangerous they can be in Europe. If the new players settle quickly, another long European run is definitely possible.
Atalanta have plenty of European experience, having won the Europa League in 2023/24 before reaching the Champions League Round of 16 last season.
The level of opposition should be considerably lower this time around, and Atalanta still have enough quality to deal with most teams in the competition. They also know exactly what it takes to handle European knockout football.
Italian clubs have reached three of the previous five Conference League finals, and we expect Atalanta to continue that trend. A Brighton vs Atalanta final would also bring together arguably the two strongest squads in the competition.
Our prediction on winning the 2026/27 Conference League is clear: Brighton. The Seagulls simply have one of the strongest and deepest squads in the competition, and their impressive start to the Premier League season has only made them look like stronger favourites.
Brighton have already shown their quality by beating Arsenal, and their new signings have settled quickly. Hürzeler also has enough options to rotate his team in Europe without losing too much quality, which could be a massive advantage once the schedule becomes busier.
English clubs have won the Conference League in each of the last two seasons, as Chelsea's success was followed by Crystal Palace. Brighton have everything they need to continue that run and lift their first European trophy in Istanbul.
Take a look at the table below, which shows the winners and the runners-up of the previous Conference League seasons. We’ve also included the top goalscorers for each of those years.
| Season | Winners | Runners-up | Top goalscorer |
