2026 World Cup group stage predictions: New format & new rules

The IEM Cologne Major 2026 is entering its final stage, with the play-offs getting underway on June 18 at the LANXESS Arena. After three Swiss stages featuring 32 teams, only eight remain in the race for the trophy and the $500,000 first-place prize.
This year's Major has already produced several surprises. For the record, BetBoom fought their way from Stage 1 all the way to the play-offs. At the same time, big names such as NAVI, MOUZ and The MongolZ were eliminated before reaching the arena stage.
Vitality remain the team to beat. The world's top-ranked squad has dominated much of 2026 and enters the play-offs as the clear favourite to lift the trophy on Sunday.

| Team | Odds to win |
| Team Vitality | 2.50 |
| Team Spirit | 3.25 |
| FURIA | 4.50 |
| Falcons | 9.00 |
| Aurora | 19.00 |
| BetBoom | 26.00 |
| G2 | 29.00 |
| 9z | 29.00 |
Despite suffering a shock defeat to 9z during Stage 3, Vitality still look like the strongest team in Cologne. The world's number one side quickly bounced back and secured a play-off spot without too much drama. Their quarter-final against Falcons is arguably the standout match of the round, but Vitality remain deserved favourites thanks to their experience and incredible consistency throughout 2026.
Spirit were one of only two teams to finish Stage 3 with a perfect 3-0 record. Led by superstar donk, they defeated NAVI, Aurora and 9z on their way to the play-offs and looked dominant throughout. Their quarter-final clash against G2 promises plenty of firepower, but Spirit enter the series as clear favourites.
FURIA have been one of the biggest surprises of the Major so far. The Brazilians also went 3-0 in Stage 3, beating B8, MOUZ and 9z to secure an early play-off berth. They now face 9z again in the quarter-finals and will be looking to repeat their earlier victory to reach the final four.
Falcons had a slightly tougher route to the play-offs but still showed why many consider them a title contender. Wins over G2, Monte and NAVI highlighted their quality, while the arrival of karrigan has added even more leadership to the roster. Unfortunately, they have been handed the toughest possible draw, facing tournament favourites Vitality in the quarter-finals.
The IEM Cologne Major 2026 features a total prize pool of $1.17 million, with half a million dollars reserved for the champions. Every team that reached the play-offs is guaranteed at least $45,000, while the runners-up will earn $170,000. With some of the world's best CS2 teams still in contention, the financial rewards add another layer of motivation heading into the decisive weekend.
| Place | Prize |
| 1st | $500,000 |
| 2nd | $170,000 |
| 3rd-4th | $80,000 |
| 5th-8th | $45,000 |
| 9th-16th | $20,000 |
Vitality are deserved favourites, but they have not looked completely unbeatable in Cologne. The loss to 9z showed that even the world's best team can be punished when they are not at their best.
Team Spirit, meanwhile, cruised through Stage 3 with a flawless 3-0 record and looked the most convincing team in the tournament. If they can expose the same weaknesses that troubled Vitality earlier in the event, Spirit have every chance of pulling off the upset and lifting the trophy on Sunday.
Our prediction is a Vitality vs Spirit final, with Team Spirit offering the best value at 3.25.
