Tromso IL welcome Brighton to Norway on Thursday evening for the first leg of their UEFA Conference League playoff tie.
The Norwegian hosts dropped into the Conference League after suffering a surprise defeat against Hradec Kralove in the Europa League qualifiers earlier this summer.
Brighton enter the competition at the playoff stage after an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League last season.
The Seagulls are clear favourites to qualify, but Tromso’s artificial surface, strong home record and match fitness could make this a competitive contest inside the Arctic Circle.
Tromso team overview
Tromso return to Romssa Arena looking to bounce back after a 3:2 Eliteserien defeat against Molde on Sunday. Despite second-half goals from Heine Asen Larsen and Ieltsin Camoes, Gutan slipped to a narrow defeat at Aker Stadion.
Before that setback, Jorgen Vik’s side had recorded three successive victories, scoring 13 goals in wins against Aalesund and CFR Cluj.
The Norwegian side cruised to a 6:2 league victory at Aalesund before producing a magnificent 5:0 win against CFR in Romania.
Tromso secured qualification for the Conference League playoff round with a 2:1 second-leg victory at Romssa Arena.
High-scoring outcomes have been frequent in recent weeks. Each of Tromso’s last five matches produced over 2.5 goals, with 25 goals scored across those fixtures.
Over a longer period at least three goals were scored in all but one of their last nine matches.
Head coach Vik has a couple of injury worries this week. Jakob Haugaard is doubtful with a thigh injury, while Vetle Skjaervik faces a late fitness test because of a groin problem.
Jens Hjertø-Dahl is no longer available after completing a transfer to EPL side Hull City earlier this month.

Brighton team overview
Brighton make the long trip to Norway for their first competitive fixture of the new season.
The Premier League visitors claimed victories in both of their warm-up fixtures against Italian opposition this summer. Brighton eased to a 3:0 win against Roma in an impressive return to action last month.
Georginio Rutter opened the scoring before Swedish World Cup star Yasin Ayari struck twice to complete the victory.
Brighton backed up that victory with a narrow 1:0 success against Bologna last weekend.
Fabian Hurzeler’s side now return to Europe competition for only the second time in their history after finishing eighth in the Premier League last season.
The EPL side previously competed in the 2023/24 Europa League, reaching the round of 16 before falling to defeat against Roma.
Head coach Fabian Hurzeler has several selection concerns ahead of Thursday’s first leg. Evan Ferguson and Yankuba Minteh are ruled out with ankle and leg injuries respectively, while Carlos Baleba and Matt O’Riley are doubtful.

Prediction
Tromso have been involved in several high-scoring matches and should pose a threat on their artificial surface.
With both teams strong in the forward areas, we can be confident of an entertaining and likely high-scoring contest in Norway.
Over 2.5 goals is my best bet in Thursday’s Conference League first leg.
Three Reasons Why We Expect Over 2.5 Goals
- Tromso have seen over 2.5 goals in 8 of their last 9 matches
- Tromso scored 15 goals in their last 4 matches
- Brighton have seen over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 matches (competitive fixtures)
Main prediction Tromso - Brighton & Hove Albion
Over 2.5 goals
