Last week probably felt like a turning point for Strasbourg. Overturning a two-goal deficit to beat Mainz 4-0 in Europe does not happen by accident.

Le Racing showed energy, belief, maybe even a bit of ruthlessness that had been missing at times. Then again, the 3-0 loss to Rennes right after brings things back to earth. Consistency is still an issue.

At home, though, Gary O’Neil’s side look far more reliable. Eight games unbeaten at Stade de la Meinau tells you this is not an easy place to visit. Julio Enciso, who has six goals in this competition, should return after being rested.

That feels significant. Sebastian Nanasi is also expected back in the starting eleven. Injuries remain a concern, with Joaquín Panichelli, Aarón Anselmino and Junior Mwanga unavailable, which slightly limits depth.

It is hard to dress up Nice’s form as anything other than poor. One win in eleven games is worrying, even if a few draws are mixed in there. The recent 0-0 against LOSC summed it up.

Plenty of effort, not much cutting edge. Claude Puel’s side just seem stuck between phases, not quite attacking well, not fully solid either.

There are, however, small reasons for optimism. The Eaglets have avoided defeat in three of their last four away matches, and oddly enough, their only win in that rough run came on the road. Against Strasbourg specifically, results have not been one-sided either.

Mohamed-Ali Cho will lead the line again, even if his cup record is quiet so far. Injuries to Moïse Bombito, Everton and Dante do not help, especially in defence, where experience is now a bit thin.
