Moldova look to build on an impressive away victory when group leaders Slovakia visit Chisinau on Tuesday.

Lilian Popescu's side claimed their first win of the campaign in Kazakhstan, while Slovakia were held to a draw by the Faroe Islands.

Both teams have reason to be confident, and a competitive encounter should be on the card at Stadionul Zimbru.

Moldova team overview

Moldova return to Stadionul Zimbru after claiming a deserved 2:1 victory against Kazakhstan in Astana on Friday.

Nicky Clescenco and Petru Popescu gave the visitors a two-goal advantage before Nuraly Alip pulled one back for the hosts.

That much-needed victory was Moldova's first in 17 games over a two-year period and moved Lilian Popescu's side into second place in Nations League C, Group 3.

The Tricolours have now collected four points from three group fixtures. Before their win in Kazakhstan, Moldova secured a 1:1 home draw against the Faroe Islands after a 2:0 defeat in Slovakia on matchday one.

While a lack of goal has been an issue for many years, the Moldovans have improved in the forward areas in past 12 months. The hosts scored at least one goal in nine of their last 12 matches. All nine games saw BTTS land.

Head coach Popescu is unlikely to make too many changes from the side that won in Kazakhstan.

Petru Popescu should retain his place after scoring in Astana, while Nichita Motpan is pushing for a recall after a half-time substitute appearance.

Virgiliu Postolachi remains unavailable through injury.

Slovakia

Slovakia team overview

Slovakia travel to Chisinau after being held to a frustrating 1:1 draw against the Faroe Islands on Friday.

A Gunnar Vatnhamar own goal gave the Falcons a first-half lead, but Adrian Justinussen equalised after the interval to earn the hosts a share of the points.

Vladimir Weiss's side remain unbeaten in the Nations League B, Group 3 with seven points from three fixtures.

Slovakia began their campaign with a 2:0 victory against Moldova before edging past Kazakhstan 2:1 in Kosice.

Despite their strong start, the Falcons have now conceded in successive matches. Both of those games finished with BTTS. That outcome has landed in five of Slovakia’s seven most recent fixtures.

Head coach Weiss could make some changes to his first XI. Ondrej Duda, Ivan Schranz and Lukas Haraslin are among those in contention to come into the side.

Matus Bero is unavailable after withdrawing from the squad with a foot injury.

Prediction

Moldova come into Tuesday’s fixture with spirits raised by last weekend’s win in Kazakhstan.

While Slovakia are expected to win, both teams can score in a competitive Nations League contest this week.

BTTS is my preferred pick at Stadionul Zimbru.

Three Reasons Why We Expect BTTS

  1. Moldova have seen BTTS in 9 of their last 12 matches
  2. Slovakia have seen BTTS in 5 of their last 7 matches
  3. Slovakia conceded 1+ goals in 8 of their last 9 away matches
