H2H stats
This fixture marks the first-ever competitive meeting between Mainz 05 and Fiorentina. Expect intensity, as both sides know a third straight win could be decisive in securing early qualification for the knockout stages.
Mainz 05 team overview
It’s been a turbulent domestic season for Mainz so far. Bo Henriksen’s side have collected just one win from nine Bundesliga fixtures, suffering six defeats and two draws. Their early-season form included a shaky start in the Conference League playoffs, where they lost the first leg to Rosenborg before recovering to qualify.
However, in Europe proper, Mainz have been far more disciplined. They opened their group campaign with a 1:0 win at Omonoia, followed by another 1:0 home victory against Zrinjski. Despite playing much of that second match with a numerical advantage, Mainz still struggled to put the game to bed, a sign that there’s room for improvement.
Henriksen will be without Niklas Tauer and Phillipp Mwene, who are ineligible for Conference League action. Anthony Caci and Maxim Dal are also sidelined through injury.

Fiorentina team overview
Fiorentina’s domestic campaign has been equally disappointing. The Violets are yet to register a league win this term and have conceded a league-high 16 goals.
Four defeats in their last five league outings, including losses to Lecce and Roma have left their confidence shaken and they sit at the bottom of the Serie A standings.
That said, Fiorentina have looked like a completely different side in Europe. They’ve won both Conference League group games by an aggregate score of 5:0 and the recent appointment of Daniele Galloppa as interim manager could inject a much-needed spark into the squad.
The visitors will travel to Germany without Robin Gosens, who picked up a hamstring injury against Inter Milan, and Tariq Lamptey, who remains out with a cruciate ligament issue.

Prediction
Both sides have been struggling domestically but thriving in Europe, setting up an intriguing battle in Mainz. With Fiorentina’s attacking flair up against a well-organized Mainz defense, Thursday’s encounter could go a long way in shaping the group’s final standings. I am going for a 2-1 home win.
Three reasons we expect over 2.5 goals in this game
- Mainz have kept a clean sheet in just two of their 15 games this season.
- Fiorentina have kept a clean sheet in just one of their last six matches.
- Three of the last five European games of Mainz produced three or more goals.
Main prediction -
Over 2.5 goals
