Luxembourg arrive in much better competitive form than their overall record might initially suggest. Before beating Bulgaria, they had won three of their previous five matches, including 2-0 and 3-0 victories over Malta in the Nations League relegation play-offs. They also defeated Albania 1-0 in June, although they lost 1-0 to Italy in between those victories.

The victory in Bulgaria continued Luxembourg's improvement under Jeff Strasser. Barreiro's equaliser and Vincent Thill's winning goal demonstrated that they can still create decisive moments despite having scored relatively few goals in recent international football.

Christopher Martins remains unavailable after being ruled out of the Nations League squad with an injury. Yvandro Borges Sanches was also not included in the September squad.

There was also a concern during the Bulgaria game, with Danel Sinani forced off at half-time because of an injury. His availability for Iceland will therefore be something to monitor closely.

Iceland began their Nations League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Estonia, a result that extended their difficult recent run. They had gone six matches without a victory before that game, although the draw at least stopped a sequence of two consecutive defeats.

Arnar Gunnlaugsson's side still have plenty of attacking quality, with Albert Gudmundsson, Orri Óskarsson and Andri Lucas Gudjohnsen among their main options in the final third. However, Iceland have several absences to contend with. 

Goalkeeper Elías Rafn Ólafsson is unavailable through injury, while Sverrir Ingi Ingason and Kristian Hlynsson are also among the players missing from the squad. Andri Fannar Baldursson is another doubt after suffering a muscle problem.

The draw with Estonia means Iceland have now failed to win in their last seven internationals, although they have scored in three of those matches.
