Liverpool return to Anfield after a frustrating 3-2 defeat at Manchester United last weekend. Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai (47') and Cody Gakpo (56') brought them back from two goals down, but Kobbie Mainoo struck a late winner at Old Trafford.

The Reds had enjoyed a three-game winning run in the EPL before their derby reversal against the Red Devils. 

While the deposed Premier League champions have endured a disappointing campaign by their standards, they should still feel confident of picking up victory this weekend. Slot’s side won three of their last four home EPL fixtures and their last two games against Chelsea at Anfield. 

Head coach Slot is unable to call on several attacking players this weekend. Mo Salah, and Hugo Ekitike are unavailable for the Reds while Alexander Isak is doubtful to feature.

Giorgi Mamardashvili, Stefan Bajčetić and Wataru Endo are also ruled out while Allison faces a late fitness test.

Chelsea arrive at Anfield in poor form after a 3-1 home defeat against Nottingham Forest last Monday. João Pedro’s stoppage-time goal proved little more than a consolation in another underwhelming display.

Led by interim boss Calum McFarlane, Chelsea have now lost their last six Premier League matches - their worst run in 33 years - and have won just one of their last ten league fixtures. The Blues sit ninth in the table, with their hopes of Champions League qualification already over.

Remarkably, Chelsea failed to score in five successive defeats before their 3:1 defeat against the Garibaldis. 

Interim boss McFarlane has three expected absentees this weekend. Estêvão (hamstring) and Jesse Derry (head) are ruled out through injury. Jamie Gittens is doubtful with a hamstring issue.
