PSG have dominated the recent head-to-head record, winning both Ligue 1 meetings during the 2025/26 campaign by identical 2-0 scorelines. The most recent encounter came at Bollaert in May, when PSG secured a 2-0 victory that simultaneously confirmed their fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title.

The historical record also favours PSG, who defeated Lens 1-0 in the 1998 Trophée des Champions. The upcoming fixture will therefore represent Lens' opportunity to reverse a difficult recent record against the capital club on home soil.

RC Lens

Lens team overview

Lens enter the match after finishing second in Ligue 1 last season and winning their first Coupe de France, giving them a historic opportunity to begin the new campaign with another major trophy. Their pre-season was mixed, however. They produced impressive attacking performances earlier in the summer, including a 4-0 victory over Lyon, a 3-1 win against Nice and a 3-0 success against Crystal Palace in a 45-minute Como Cup fixture.

There are no major confirmed injury concerns in the Lens camp ahead of the French Super Cup tie, although the club's final selection will be important following a summer of squad changes. Thorgan Hazard is, however, suspended because he carries over a disciplinary suspension from his time at Anderlecht before having returned to Lens this summer.

The home advantage should nevertheless provide a significant boost, particularly given the atmosphere expected at Bollaert.

PSG

PSG team overview

PSG arrive with considerably greater competitive momentum. Luis Enrique's side defeated Aston Villa 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué scoring the goals. PSG used nine starters from their Champions League final victory, underlining the quality available to Enrique despite the short turnaround.

PSG’s pre-season also included a 1-1 draw with Manchester United, while the victory over Villa means they have already played competitive football before Lens' opening official fixture.

The main concern is fatigue. PSG will have only four days to recover from their European Super Cup triumph before travelling to Lens, which could encourage Enrique to rotate. Nevertheless, the club's squad depth gives them considerably more flexibility.

Prediction

PSG should have enough attacking quality to secure another trophy, although Lens are capable of scoring and making this considerably closer than the two 2-0 league victories last season. The reigning Ligue 1 and UEFA Champions League winners also come off the back of a 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup in midweek and should be in high spirits and highly motivated to claim their second trophy within the space of just a few days.

Prediction: PSG to Win.

Three reasons we expect PSG to Win

  1. Recent dominance over Lens. PSG have won both Ligue 1 meetings with Lens during the 2025/26 season, recording two 2-0 victories.
  2. Superior competitive sharpness. PSG have already played a competitive final this season, beating Aston Villa 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.
  3. Greater quality and squad depth. PSG are the reigning Ligue 1 and Champions League winners.
