Lens enter the match after finishing second in Ligue 1 last season and winning their first Coupe de France, giving them a historic opportunity to begin the new campaign with another major trophy. Their pre-season was mixed, however. They produced impressive attacking performances earlier in the summer, including a 4-0 victory over Lyon, a 3-1 win against Nice and a 3-0 success against Crystal Palace in a 45-minute Como Cup fixture. 

There are no major confirmed injury concerns in the Lens camp ahead of the French Super Cup tie, although the club's final selection will be important following a summer of squad changes. Thorgan Hazard is, however, suspended because he carries over a disciplinary suspension from his time at Anderlecht before having returned to Lens this summer. 

The home advantage should nevertheless provide a significant boost, particularly given the atmosphere expected at Bollaert.

PSG arrive with considerably greater competitive momentum. Luis Enrique's side defeated Aston Villa 2-1 in the UEFA Super Cup, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Désiré Doué scoring the goals. PSG used nine starters from their Champions League final victory, underlining the quality available to Enrique despite the short turnaround. 

PSG’s pre-season also included a 1-1 draw with Manchester United, while the victory over Villa means they have already played competitive football before Lens' opening official fixture. 

The main concern is fatigue. PSG will have only four days to recover from their European Super Cup triumph before travelling to Lens, which could encourage Enrique to rotate. Nevertheless, the club's squad depth gives them considerably more flexibility.
