Two teams with perfect records face-off in Turin on Sunday evening as Juventus face AC Milan in the Derby d'Italia.

The Bianconeri collected six points without conceding in their opening two Serie A fixtures, while Milan also began the campaign with back-to-back victories.

Recent encounters between these great rivals have usually been low-scoring, and another tight contest should be expected between the Italian giants.

Juventus and AC Milan have met on 16 occasions in competitive fixtures since the start of 2020. Milan claimed five victories, while Juventus won three games. Eight matches finished level.

The teams played out two goalless draws last season, including their most recent encounter at San Siro in April.

Six of the previous seven meetings finished with under 2.5 goals, while only one of those contests finished with both teams scoring.

Juventus

Juventus team overview

Juventus maintained their perfect start to the Serie A season with a deserved 2:0 home victory against Parma last weekend.

Level at the interval, goals from substitutes Nicolás González and Teun Koopmeiners secured the points for Luciano Spalletti’s side.

The Turin giants began their campaign with a narrow 1:0 win at Frosinone. Gleison Bremer scored the only goal for the Old Lady.

Three goals and two clean sheets leave the Bianconeri among the early Serie A leaders. Juventus have now won four of their last five competitive fixtures since the end of last season.

A strong defensive record has been evident since the start of their pre-season. Juve kept clean sheets in eight of nine games played since mid-July.

Spalletti has several selection issues this weekend. Kenan Yıldız underwent surgery after fracturing his left foot and is expected to remain sidelined for several weeks.

Khéphren Thuram, Juan Cabal, Andrea Cambiaso and Jeff Ekhator also remain unavailable while Weston McKennie could miss out with a muscle injury.

Jérémie Boga could continue in Yıldız’s absence, with Francisco Conceição and Jonathan David also competing for places behind French forward Randal Kolo Muani.

AC Milan

AC Milan team overview

AC Milan travel to Turin after securing a comfortable 2:0 home victory against Venezia last Friday.

Gonçalo Ramos opened his account for the Rossoneri before a late Redouane Halhal own goal completed the scoring at San Siro.

Ruben Amorim’s men had previously claimed a 2:1 victory at Torino in their opening fixture. Alphadjo Cissè and Adrien Rabiot found the net in a fine away win for the Rossoneri.

The Milan giants endured a miserable end to last season, losing six of their last ten Serie A fixtures. Since then, they have avoided defeat in five of six games under the recently appointed Portuguese boss.

The visitors have no confirmed injury absentees ahead of Sunday’s trip to Turin. Amorim could retain the same 3-4-2-1 system that secured victory against Venezia.

Ramos should continue as the central striker after scoring his first Milan goal last weekend. Cissè and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are expected to provide attacking support.

Prediction

Juventus and AC Milan have made perfect starts to the new campaign, but neither side will want to give too much away in Sunday’s heavyweight encounter.

Both of last season’s encounters finished goalless, and another tight affair seems inevitable this weekend.

Under 2.5 goals is my preferred selection at Allianz Stadium.

Three Reasons Why We Expect Under 2.5 Goals

  1. Juventus have seen under 2.5 goals in their last 10 matches against AC Milan (Serie A)
  2. Juventus have drawn 0:0 with AC Milan in 4 of their last 5 meetings
  3. Only 6 goals were scored in the last 9 meetings between these sides (Serie A)
