Last season, even though Inter had a better season overall and won the title, Napoli were more successful in h2h duels. We saw a 2:2 draw at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan, while Napoli won 3:1 at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in Naples. Looking further back, over the past ten h2h games, both teams won twice, while the remaining six games ended in draws.
When it comes to the number of goals, four of the past ten h2h games ended with three or more goals, while both teams scored in seven of those.
Inter team overview
Inter had an excellent season, winning the double under Cristian Chivu. However, the impression is that they had to do a much better job in the Champions League, given the fact that Bodo/Glimt eliminated them in the 1/16 Finals. Over the summer, we believe Nerazzurri improved the squad and are looking even more capable of playing on multiple fronts.
This season, Nerazzurri won 4:1 against Monza and 1:0 against Cagliari. However, they created numerous chances against Cagliari, finishing with 3.67 xG. So, even though that win doesn't look impressive at first glance, Inter are playing really good football and are deservedly considered a pretty big favorite against Napoli.
Summer signing Djed Spence missed the first two games due to a minor injury. Even though the injury isn't too serious, Inter doesn't want to rush him, and the Englishman will most likely miss the upcoming game vs Napoli.

Napoli team overview
Napoli finished second last season, but weren't too close to Inter, as they finished 11 points behind. But their performance in the Champions League was truly worrisome, as they failed to secure the knockout phase. During the summer window, Gli Azzurri improved the squad a bit, but we believe that replacing Antonio Conte with Massimiliano Allegri is a pretty considerable downgrade.
This season, Napoli started off well, beating Genoa 2:0 on the road. However, they failed their first big test after Como won 2:1 against them in Naples. After the loss, coach Massimiliano Allegri spoke to the media, saying they need to improve defensively and play with more aggression. He added that they dominated the second half but lacked efficiency.
For the upcoming game, Alessandro Buongiorno and Luca Marianucci should remain sidelined with injuries, while Scott McTominay will most likely be out due to heart problems.

Prediction
Inter opened the season well, winning both games. If we add friendlies, they have won four in a row against very good teams and are undefeated in all seven games (preseason and current season combined). To be fair, they did not have too challenging a schedule, winning 5:1 on aggregate against Monza and Cagliari. But the overall performances were highly encouraging.
On the other hand, Napoli won once and lost once. We weren't really impressed by their performances, and now that Scott McTominay is out, we do not expect a better one. Gli Azzurri will probably need some time to get used to a new coach, and we do not think a road game against the reigning champs early in the season is the place where they will collect points.
Considering all the above, we believe that Inter is the better team at the moment and should eventually win Serie A.
3 Reasons why Inter should win
- Inter won the first two games this season
- Inter are undefeated over the last 19 games (last season, preseason, and this season combined)
- Napoli lost the previous game to Como 2:1
