Two nations competing at the World Cup for the first time this century square-off in Boston this weekend as Haiti hosts Scotland.
Scotland return to the competition for the first time since 1998 while Haiti makes their first appearance at the finals since 1974.
Now set to meet for the first time in their history at Gillette Stadium, both nations will see Sunday’s opening fixture as a crucial one in the race to qualify from Group C.
Haiti team overview
Haiti head to Boston after suffering a narrow 2:1 defeat against Peru in their final World Cup warm-up fixture last weekend.
Wilson Isidor handed the Haitians a first-half advantage, but late strikes from Renzo Garcés and Jairo Vélez completed a dramatic late turnaround for the Peruvians.
Before that setback, the CONCACAF nation impressed with a commanding 4:0 victory against New Zealand, a result that raised expectations ahead of their long-awaited return to the world stage.
Sébastien Migné’s side booked their place at the finals after topping Group C in CONCACAF qualifying. The Grenadiers finished two points ahead of Honduras, sealing qualification with a crucial 2-0 victory against Nicaragua in their final qualifier.
Haiti are competing at the World Cup for the first time since 1974. Their only previous appearance ended with defeats against Italy (3-1), Poland (7-0) and Argentina (4-1), as the Caribbean nation finished bottom of the group after conceding 14 goals.
Head coach Migné has a fully fit 26-man squad available for Haiti’s first World Cup fixture in more than 50 years. Wilson Isidor is expected to feature after scoring his second international goal in last weekend’s defeat against Peru.

Scotland team overview
Momentum is firmly with Scotland ahead of Sunday’s World Cup opener after a pair of emphatic warm-up victories against Curacao and Bolivia.
Steve Clarke’s side hit four goals in both fixtures, first brushing aside Dick Advocaat’s Curacao team 4-1 at Hampden before dismantling Bolivia 4-0 in New Jersey last weekend.
Scotland have now claimed seven victories from their last 11 internationals. Clarke’s men scored exactly four goals in each of their last three wins and bagged at least twice in all seven victories recorded since June 2025.
The Tartan Army are returning to the World Cup finals for the first time since 1998. Scotland have won only four of 23 previous matches at the tournament, with their last success coming in a 2:1 victory against Sweden back in 1990.
Head coach Clarke is expected to opt for a 4-4-2 formation this weekend. Lawrence Shankland and Che Adams are expected to lead the Scottish attack.
Elsewhere, John McGinn will hope to earn a recall after a substitute appearance against Bolivia, while Angus Gunn is set to battle 43-year-old Craig Gordon for the goalkeeping position.

Prediction
Scotland have better quality in the midfield to forward areas, and they should emerge with a likely hard-fought victory against a spirited Haiti side in Boston.
I have my money on Scotland to claim a vital victory at Gillette Stadium.
Three Reasons Why We Expect Scotland to Win
- Scotland won 7 of their last 11 matches
- Haiti lost 6 of their last 14 matches
